A Day in the Life of Lady Starlight! A tour around NYC with Lady Starlight! First I take you shopping to find hidden fashion gems in unlikely places. Then it's off to GaGa's Fame Ball Tour to hang with The Haus. Final stop: my own performance art gig in downtown NYC! produced for German TV show TAFF MAY 2009

TRANSLATION

Hosts: Lady GaGa, everyone is talking about her. Her songs are playing everywhere....on the radio, in the clubs. Even celebrities are copying her style. Aren't we all a bit gaga for her? But here's the thing. Her unique style is not hers alone, it's influenced by her best friend...Lady Starlight! We met her in New York and were exited to see which Lady is more gaga.

This is Lady GaGa....and this is the woman behind Lady GaGa, Lady Starlight. The 33 year old New Yorker is Lady GaGa's style icon and fashion inspiration. Without Lady Starlight, the extravagant singer would not be what she is today. The crazy pop queen agrees with that.

DJ:“Who is your fashion inspiration?”

Lady GaGa: “Her!”

DJ: “Lady Starlight? Come over here Starlight, so you are the fashion inspiration for GaGa?”

The two party girls met each other at a bar in New York five years ago and worked as go-go dancers together.

Lady Starlight: “It's this amazing place on the Lower East Side. It’s real Rock 'n' Roll...it smells like urine! I was go-go dancing and she saw me and we were both “Lady’s”. It was just an instant connection.”

From that moment on the two Ladies were always together. Double crazy but double creative.  The result was a show......”Lady GaGa and The Starlight Revue”. In panties and garter belts, they put New Yorkers under their spell and had a real hit. Lady Starlight shows us were they were buying the sexy costumes for their performance...in a strip shop!

Lady Starlight: “We always wanted the flashiest, flashiest garments possible.....and to be as naked as possible! So flashy and naked....like a stripper. This place has the best selection.”

Even though it’s been over two years since Starlight and GaGa shopped here, she still finds merchandise that was available during that time.

Lady Starlight: “It's amazing that this is still here! This is a piece that GaGa actually has!”

At that time, Lady GaGa had wanted this chain mail dress very bad but $360 was too expensive for her to spend.

Lady Starlight: “We spent all of our money on the weird props for our show....fog machines, bubble machines, disco balls....so we had to be a bit more reasonable. I once tried to make this dress....but that didn’t really work out.”

Now Lady GaGa has a different financial situation. How much her bubble dress costs is a secret. She can afford her own designer team for her unique costumes. A huge success compared to how she bought her costumes two years ago! Just one question: two “girlfriends” in a sex shop? Is there more to the story?

Lady Starlight: “We were just best friends. You know when you meet that friend that you just can’t get enough of? We literally spend every minute together. We got so many ideas from each other and inspired each other. It was just amazing. It was friend love.”

There is always room for speculation. Were they lovers? Who knows? Whatever the case, her fashion style is hip.

Lady Starlight: “The essence of my style is taking things out of context and putting them together with stuff that you wouldn’t expect. All of a sudden, even though you don’t have to spend a lot of money you have this exciting, superstar couture look.”

Lady Starlight shows us how she combines a basic  swimsuit with leg warmers to achieve a sexy outfit and how to create a hot rock star look out of a high tech tracksuit. Lady Starlight is convinced that Lady GaGa will incorporate this style into an upcoming music video.

Lady Starlight: “When I was with GaGa on the Fame Ball Tour, I was exclusively wearing  a lot of cycling bibs, compression tights and cycling gloves. She was inspired, her dancers were inspired. I got to share the excitement with the whole Haus of GaGa.”

Lady GaGa has a concert in New York tonight and Lady Starlight will not be missing it. There she films exclusive backstage footage and interviews  fans at the shows in videos for her YouTube channel.  And her familiarity is steadily growing. She also has her own fans and is even asked to sign autographs.

Fans: “We love Starlight! She’s fucking awesome! She’s amazing! Look at her, look at that body! Who could wear that shit? Only Lady Starlight....she’s fucking awesome!”.

Lady Starlight is overwhelmed with the impact and influence she and GaGa’s fashion has on the fans. Almost everyone was in GaGa style at the concert.

Lady Starlight: “What I love about it so much is that the fans are so young that’s it’s changing their life! It’s shaping their personality! That’s so powerful and amazing!”.

Lady Starlight visits her friend before the show backstage to wish her good luck. We have to stay outside,  only the best friend is allowed backstage.

Lady Starlight: “No backstage....”.

Starlight goes alone and films the last seconds before the big show in their hometown, New York. Since backstage is private, Lady Starlight met us after the concert.

Lady Starlight: “Basically everybody came out for the show. Madonna showed up! Cyndi Lauper, Kanye....who else.....more......Marc Jacobs! So it’s fashion, it’s art, it’s music......everyone!”.

Lady Starlight knows every famous star is around her friend Lady GaGa, and she wants fame as well. Her chances are good. She already has her own fans and to be the fashion icon of the most successful singer of 2009 is not so bad. We say good luck!

THIS IS SO COOL! I PRETTY MUCH LOST MY MIND! You look sooooooo absolutely killer beautiful cool in this video! Your incredible energy and charm are like tidal waves! The Starlight/Gaga collaboration has created and continues to create amazing original works of sight and sound. I would have liked to see more solo Starlight music, dancing and performance. Still, my heart was pounding the whole time with excitement.

You should do a show like walking around new york showing all the crazy shit around town... walk into porn shops, clothing shops, clubs, bars whatever showing off the fashion they have in there lol

there used to be a show i watched many years ago called Insomniac with Dave Attell, he went to every city in the world during the night going bar to bar while showing off the city... while getting drunk... i didn't miss a show... BUT I think you could do better!
