At least, I think that was it. I managed to use three guitars during the set because I broke a string at the end of The End, and then I used Chris' electric for Sussex Ghost Story, and then he brought me, I think, Jason Finazzo's guitar, and then I finally got back to my own. Very odd. Stephen Elliott always lays on a good event, and I whole-heartedly recommend his book "The Adderall Diaries", just published. Then, in a change to our advertised programming, Chris and I stayed up the entire night listening to classic vinyl on his amazing system. The turntable itself looks like something from Close Encounters. I want one really badly. We heard so many things, though I particular recall: Stackridge, Nilsson's 1941 and Kojak Columbo from "Duit On Mon Dei", Chicago VI (I have never previously got anything out of Chicago at all; last night it suddenly seemed like a disastrous avenue I might have to explore), Elton John (I actually went to sleep while we were listening to something else, woke up and it was Elton John), the stellar version of Wah Wah from Concert To Bangladesh, The Trick (come on! come on!), The Ramones (Road To Ruin - Joey's great vocal on Needles and Pins). Oh my god, it was all quite fantastic. And then I went to sleep for three hours. The day stretches before me, but I don't think I'll impose myself on it too much: maybe have a bath, clear out my inbox (that's not a euphemism, I mean my email), and wait until my car picks me up at 5pm to go to tonight's concert, which is a slightly secret one in Woodside, CA (home of Joan Baez as I recall) where I will play a benefit (in someone's home, but not Joan's) for Kathleen McNamara's movie "Why Isn't Chris von Sneidern Famous?" [I suppose, on reflection, it may be that he stays up until 6am listening to Chicago VI. In fact, I went to bed before him. He might have stayed up until 7am listening to Chicago VII, for all I know. I'm assuming that there is a Chicago VII. It seems likely that there might be. Of course that's not really the reason why he isn't famous. Why aren't I famous come to that? Where's *that* friggin' movie?] If anyone needs details of the show tonight, please email me at jwh@armory.com and I'll put you in touch with the hosts. Last night's tickets were $10. Tonight's aren't quite so reasonable. But I suppose it's a good opportunity to see me, relaxed, playing in the most relaxing circumstances possible. if that sounds appealing, and you live near Woodside, then... hey... And then tomorrow, armed with a parking pass and a couple of backstage passes, we shall go to the Treasure Island festival, which piques my interest, even though all the bands I've actually heard of play on sunday.
