So Saturday night I decided to take my son Ben camping at Stone Mountain park which is about 30 minutes from our house. We're there with our camp set up and we take a walk to the General Store for some snacks. I walk in and exchange polite "Hi"s with a guy who looks very familiar to me. Then I realize that it is the director McG. I turn back and say "Excuse me but aren't you McG?" he says yes and I introduce myself, telling him that I was one of the extra firefighters down at the set the other week filming the crash scene. McG was very cool as we spoke for a couple of minutes about how the movie was coming, he thanked me for my participation and added that he thought I looked familiar when I walked in (probably not exactly true but who cares!!). He said he thought it was very cool that my son and I were having a "guys night away". When I asked what he was doing at the campground, he told me that he was hanging out with Mathew McConaughey and some friends. So he paid for his souveniers and left. I paid for my snacks and we left as well. Now I have to say that I wasn't really following him, because he was walking the same direction that I was, but at the same time, I didn't take any short cuts back towards our campsite. I realized that he and McConaughey were at a site not very far from my own. I really didn't know whether I should say hello or not but ultimately I decided that opportunities like this do not come along every day and McConaughey and I have a common ground because we worked on the same movie, so I decided to say "Hi" He was very cordial as I yammered on about how funit was to be part of his movie and how much I've enjoyed his work, esepecially A Time To Kill which is in my list of favorite movies. I spoke with him for maybe a minute and he was very cool, then I shook his hand and left. This story would be so much cooler if he and McG said "Hey, you wanna stay and have some BBQ with us?" but alas, I was only an extra.
