The nice folks in Oklahoma are having a film festival right now. It's called the deadCENTER Film Festival, and they showed Kate's movie about me. She phoned and told me that someone asked if I ever got out of the pantry. Well, the answer is that I get out of the pantry all the time.

I have several groups that I've joined to meet new people. One group meets monthly in the basement of my neighborhood library: Former Homemakers of America. We meet to discuss things like the best recipes to pledge never to make again, how to wean yourself off of doing massive laundry, and how to keep lace doilies from taking over your life.

There was one woman--let's call her 'Jane'-- in the group who had been hooked on doing ten loads of laundry a week. She tried to quit cold turkey and got a bad case of the shakes. Also, she would periodically break out in tears whenever anyone said "Downy." That word actually came up a lot, and we had to be supportive even though she was disruptive. A member of the group, though, figured out that if you give someone origami to do while they're trying to cut down or quit laundry, the symptoms are far less severe. Of course, there's a new problem. The last time I saw Jane, she was buried under a mountain paper cranes.

So, yes, I do get out of the pantry, but I'll never move out. It has everything I need to be content and happy.
