So, my new project's first release 'The Funk Next Door' featuring Miss G Major was picked up about this time last year by VIM from Greece. The label is a labour of love by the Scientifics and are now on their 9th release. These guys have been awesome supporters of my previous outputs and along with playing my rounds to the Greek tech funk massive, they've also always sent over the best promo packages (pssst, keep 'em coming guys. :)) Anyway, so it was great to have them pick up one of our first 2Crush tracks. I knew they were doing up a remix for the release, but I just found out today that they actually commissioned a fuggin slew of them! I'm so stoked to hear other people's interpretations, and I'm even happier that this occurred on Yanni and Nicole's first release. Here's an excerpt from VIM's March newsletter:
V.I.M. RECORDS NEWSLETTER 02
MARCH 2008
This month is really very important for us. You see, if everything goes as planned our 10th single release will see the light of day this March!
VIMTECH007 (by NICE) and VIMTRONICA008 (by AIRBUS MODULAR) were our February releases and they are going to be BEATPORT exclusives for about four weeks. They are already gaining strong support, excellent reviews and they are shaking dancefloors (and minds of course!) all over the world…….so hurry up and grab them!
VIMBREAKS009 will be a killer release by our Northampton friend DOM ALMOND featuring ELAINE SUZY SCOTT on vocals. After some killer releases for FRESH PRODUCE, BIG LICKS, SYSTEMATICA, VOODOO VINYL, ERASE and FAT!, Dom comes with another excellent uplifting vocal Breaks tune called "In Too Deep". Italian uprising star BREAK THE BOX provides a monster remix that's expected to set every dancefloor on fire, and another Italian guy from Milano called SYNTEMU provides an uplifting Tech remix.
VIMBREAKS010 will be a kind of celebration one! It's called "The Funk Next Door" and it's an uplifting Funky Breaks roller from 2CRUSH - a duo from Austin, Texas featuring MISS G MAJOR on vocals. One half of them is our friend Adan Salazar which has released singles (as SIFTER AND ADAN) for HONCHOS MUSIC and BOOMBOX RECORDS.
On the remix duties Australian Breaks stars SIGNAL DRIVERS provide an excellent dirty Electro-House/Breaks mix, THE SCIENTIFICS-fresh from their huge remix for ELECTRIC SOULSIDE-comes up with another innovating Tech-Breaks monster, Greek Funky Beatz talent BASEMENT FREAKS (having a whole album, some singles and a lot of remixes under his belt for labels like MUSIC KITCHEN, TIMEWARP MUSIC, REPHRASE MUSIC, GOOD GROOVE and more) give a Funky Dub remix and Greek champion Dmc DJ KID STRETCH (one third of cult hip-hoppers WARRIORZ and uprising Funky producer) provide an uplifting Funky Breaks diamond with Old-Skool sensibility n' touch!
Y'all know I'm not much of a partyer but this is the kinda thing that makes me want to cheers a beer. I mean, I won't get drunk and jump on or behind bars or anything, that's just not me, but I think I may have to celebrate a bit.
