Current mood:  gloomy
As I'm sure many of you out there already know, Paul Havea, former Illzilla singer, tragically passed away on December 9th. A shockingly sudden death, it sent shockwaves through not only the Illzilla family but indeed the entire Melbourne music scene. Hav will always be remembered for his smooth, soulful, angelic and at times soul-stirring voice, and his passionate performance of music.

Pauly was well loved by many, and was known for his overwhelming generosity, positivity, goodwill and unflinching love towards friends and family. Despite being an amazing performer, he always had time for and interest in what people had to say. Hav was a strong man, a true gentleman. People would meet him and after 5 minutes they loved him. He was just the kinda guy who could captivate you. His big, strong body was only matched by his big, strong, warm heart, his beautiful soul, his sense of brotherhood. Upon speaking to friends of his after his death, I consistently hear the words "brother", "father-figure", "pillar" and "rock". They're all true. Pauly was truly solid as a rock, and a brother to us all.

Not only a brother, Pauly was also a husband and a father. He put 100% into his family, not ever out of a sense of obligation, but out of pure love. He was a man who worked hard for his family, not only to provide for them financially, but also to make certain that his beautiful wife Radha, and his wonderful son Mateo, were themselves never unsure of Paul's unconditional love for them both. Our thoughts are now with Radha and Mateo, and I extend a personal pledge to them, to be there now and for ever as a friend to Radha, and an uncle to Mateo.

Paul Havea was buried yesterday at Springvale Cemetery, after a touching ceremony at Auburn Uniting Church. I would like to extend a thanks on behalf of my Illzilla brothers, to the family of Paul Havea, who made us feel so welcome and allowed us to take part in Paul's burial. Much love to you all.

So, Paul Havea, our brother and friend, we miss you and love you very much. And if any solace is to be taken from the enormous grief and sadness we are all feeling, it is that it is only due to your being such a good, honourable and loving man, and leading such a tremendous and happy life. Chur cuz. See you for dinner ow. Mantra xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Yes indeed.

Late with this response but never too late to send blessings and love to the crew and family.

I met him once at a gig and we hit it off. Could've been the whole Tongan connection, but I'm sure he would have been like that with people of all races and back grounds.

I'm related to the Faupula family who are related to Paul and his family. So as a Tongan, family member and musician, I feel the pain but also feel the love and celebration.

Now that I'm the host of the Triple J Hip Hop Show, I have the opportunity to dedicate your song, 'Break Loose', that I'll be playing tonight to Paul, the fam and extended fam that is Illzilla.

Blessing and happiness.

Also very late with this but have to express my saddness for Paul's passing and respect for him overall. I remember at The Spot when you guys played he gave me a look of joy when he saw everyone getting down to the music. R.I.P.

Fubex - MY OFFICIAL ONE-STOP!

This is 12 months on, none the less I do pray for Nav. I daresay this dude had talent and without a doubt, hasn't been much singers out there who could embrace such a soulful voice.

He will of course always be remembered, not just through Illzilla, through everybody who had connections with him. Especially his family and once used to at work, worked alongside his Cousin who was also very close to Hav.

Memories remains when we lose anybody that means a lot to us. He will be remembered through within our hearts and through all his songs that he left behind for us to enjoy, allowing him to still live forever in our presence.

RIP PAUL HAVEA
