Alrighty party people. After a year I finally got some content on my page! Wow it's funny how you go a little pimp stylie on the background and next thing you know you're pulled into this virtual vortex that sucks at your brain for hours on end! If I had a laptop on the road with me, this thing would be crazy outta control!
So how are you all? I spent the better part the week working on guitar tracks for my bro Matt Vrba's new record. Got some great tones and some solid takes if I do say so myself. Thanks Chris (bassist) for getting me to stay on that one note in the "Trucker" song! Good ear. I think this album is gonna do good for the 'Vrbster' (think hamster but hotter in a dress)......... Nevermind that last bit. I may throw a rough mix up if he says it's cool.
So I added a bunch of pictures. I have boxes of the old media style- i.e. film- that need scanning, and then ya'll can see me in the glory of "hair farmer" days. Maybe that's what tonight's for?..........
I don't know if you can see them but I put a couple videos up of commercials that I've played on @ Dustpan in SF. Tell me what you think. Those ads are a couple years old now, but you'l get the jist.
I also spent the better part of the day putting together those 'sonic' collages. Got a lot done. Back stories-
Boris Dig is a band that I was in in the mid 90's with one of the baddest ass crazy dudes ever- Johnny G. He played bass and sang and wrote the tunes. Amazing that he could play those bass lines and sing at the same time (check out the last part of the track called "BoneHead"). Total hardcore insane rock attitude this guy has. Played Bass with the 3 Mr. C's- Cooder, Clapton & Clemons (The Big Man). Also on that session is Mr. Pete Mcrae, guitar, mando, cello guru insane muso dude. And the unstoppable Stevie D, who last time I saw him play was April/ May of last year hitting the skins for David Gilmour. Yes the same David Gilmour of Pink Floyd. Lucky I got to play with Stevie when he was easy, er, um....... cheap ;-)
The "Commercial Demo" is a few things that I did with/ for Zack Smith, Dustpan Studio in San Francisco. I've done a ton of work with him over the last 10 years.
I'm going to post some stuff from Clay Bell, Vrba, TWG and other projects soon.
Let's see what else? My friend Nils and I got in 9 holes today before sunset @ Golden Gate Golf Course. It's a little 3 putt, but when you're standing on the tee at #9 when the sun is going down and you're looking out towards the Farallon Islands, you just can't help but think-"Wow this really doesn't suck!...... Now if I only had a golf swing". I love San Francisco. I was born here, and grew up in the Bay Area so I'm biased. Oh yeah there's also #16 @ Hudson National overlooking the Tapanzee Bridge and the Hudson river. That doesn't suck. And thanks to my friend the "tankster" I was afforded the opportunity to take that in along with a rippin' BLT and a freakin' lesson from a high priced golf pro (I think it cost me 8 beers?.....whadda ya say tank?).
And speaking of lessons, I started taking some at the beginining of this year with my good friend Vernon "Ice" Black. If you live in the SF Bay you probably know him. If you don't you have probably heard his playing. He has some big records to his credit, played with the best jazz musicians and knows how to enjoy a cigar and a shot of good tequilla! We always joke about how his guitars must be really expensive because they have all these cool notes that my guitars don't!! ;-) So I figured it was time to get some of those notes! I feel like I'm 16 again in a good way.
So it seems like I'm crazy busy, but I always have time to give a lesson or record a track! Be well all and I'll shout at ya again real soon........... E
