Good idea Aaron!  Always happy to hear from bands coming through the area.  Putting the latest info into an email message (tour, recording, member changes, major shows, etc.) in addition to the tired bio you put on your myspace three years ago can be a big help in getting you some "fresh" ink.  We can get a lot done via email and links to your music and photos.  Keep in mind we print biweekly so we need some lead time to get your info, write it up, lay it out, and print it before it hits the streets.

One tip for y'all:  As much as I enjoy looking at pics of you getting drunk and/or the hot girls at your shows (esp. the girls), try to have at least one fairly decent promo or live photo on your myspace or facebook (or elsewhere) that has a reasonable resolution for print.  Or you can just email me one or two.  We're a magazine.  People like to look at pictures when they're flipping thru.

One other thing:  I know some bands don't like the whole bio thing (Hey man, don't judge me.  Just listen to the music!).  I get it.  In a perfect world, I would have all the time in the world to sit back with my headphones on grooving to your latest cut, pondering the nuanced integration of your influences while I write up how you are taking the music in a new direction without ever comparing your band to any other.  But when I'm staring down a fast approaching deadline a little background would help a whole helluva lot in telling your story, which believe it or not often translates to people who have never heard of you actually coming to your show.  Throw me a frickin' bone here people!

Anything can help - where you're from, who's in the band, how you got started, who you've opened for / played with, your recording history, songwriting or musical inspiration(s), press clips both good and bad (Gay Blades have some great bad press clips), whatever.  If you're a smart ass and like to write a smart ass bio ... awesome.  At least I know you're funny.  Thanks.  Seriously, I appreciate it.  So shoot me an email.

Thanks,
Mike Ironside
