A lot of persons asked me out about Internet censorship in China. Now let me tell a little bit about that: First how to get to know that pages are censored and secondly how one can get rid of it.

The average Chinese doesn't notice the censorship in his live, most pages can be reached just like in germany. But as a foreigner it is very obvious and easy to see: For example it is hard to go to Google.de, because normally google forwards Chinese users directly to google.cn, the censored variant of google.com. Another good example  is the wikipedia which is totally inaccessable... and of course a lot other pages (especially those providing governement-critical content).

Free Image Hosting at www.ImageShack.us

What can one to against that?

Easy! Just use a so-called proxy server, its a medium between you and the other server: When the signal is redirected to you in china the censor sees signals from the proxy server, not from the wikipedia...
Another trick (currently not possible) is to translate the blocked pages via google's translation service, see  here.

UPDATE: Wikipedia pages can be reached over Yahoo:
Just use the yahoo search and let the results displayed from the yahoo cache, this negates the content-filter

Das brauch ich gar nicht: Die koennen das eh alle (einen richtigen proxy zu finden und einzustellen ist nich sooooo der Aufwand). Das weitaus groessere Problem ist dass die Angst haben erwischt zu werden, deswegen trauen sich die wenigsten.
