Originally I was going to write my first quarterly newsletter for my music gig, but hey, 'tis the season for 12-month reflections, right? I'll keep it short and sweet!
-- My Homepage Away from Home
First and foremost, you can visit my new homepage at www.triermusic.com. Feel free to check the site for music, news, my demo, and more! Big thanks to very talented designer Bill Walton for this one.
-- Mindscape Music in Tunes - and Everywhere Else!
I'm pleased to say that this was a great year for Mindscape Music, my "cinematic" electronica project. The first CD, New Urban Nightmares, is now available in iTunes, and I'm working on a physical version right now. Also, the Mindscape Music tune "Battle Hymn" is now the theme music for the Accidental Survivors podcast. AND, Mindscape Music is teaming up with a prominent indie game publisher to make a soundtrack for modern-day, gritty RPGs.
-- Making the Soundtrack for that Five-O Grind...
I was lucky enough to get my music on TV for the first time this year, thanks to the awesome crew at Absinthe Films. Two of my songs were shown on Fuel TV's "Flipside," which pulls back the curtain on how Absinthe made their urban-and-exotic riding DVD "More." Absinthe Films always shows some great riders, but I gotta say that learning how they put it all together is just as fascinating!
-- ...and the Soundtrack for that Level Up!
And if snowboarding isn't your thing, you can always pull your laptop up next to the fireplace and play some computer games -- I contributed four songs to the puzzle game "Archo" by Curiosity Labs. The game is still in development (v0.5 as we speak), but the kind gents have made one of my tracks available for listening joy at their website.
-- And Finally, Making the World a Little More Funky
My new funky jazz band, the Soul Cryptographers, made its "official" debut this year! We've re-arranged some Medeski, Martin & Wood tunes to take advantage of our two horns, and we also play some old favorites by Cannonball Adderley, The Meters, and even Frank Zappa. This project is a blast - and everyone's such a gifted improviser that we end up rewriting the songs as we play them on stage! Check out our recording of the Donald Byrd tune "Jan Jan" for a high-octane sample!
-- What's Next for Your Ears?
I'm glad to say that I've got no shortage of exciting projects for the new year:
* A full length CD of funky chill-out music
* The soundtrack for an indie snowboarding video
* Two more EPs from Mindscape Music
* A Soul Cryptographers demo
* An EP of some arty "aggressive ambient"/soundscape music
* An EP of overdubbed improv
Looking at the list makes me realize I need to stop e-mailing and get back into the studio! Best wishes for the new year!
