So I can't really even put into words how ridiculously fresh SXSW was, and since I haven't joined the digicam movement yet, I'll let Mike 2600 and Ian Meyer's pictures do some talking. But needless to say, it was on some life altering levels of inspiration to be surrounded by such incredible, world class musicians and just good people in general. I have a whole laundry list of people to thank after I get through these pics. So here we go:
Mike 2600's design company Burlesque had their SXSW poster showcase with a ridiculous DJ lineup at this sushi restaurant called Silhouette. On Thursday night we started getting it in early.

By the end of my set we had a nice little crowd goin to set it up for my dudes Tactic who drove all the way from Kansas City! They killed it on a 2X4 set. My man Doug Surreal was in the building by this point and hijinks were soon to ensue.

After Tactic's set, Calgary's own Smalltown DJ's took the stage. Plain and simple, these guys are SEASONED vets on the 2X4. They own a club, a record store, and a label in Canada! Serious grinding. And their set was some of the most fun high energy party music I had heard in a minute. Nuff props to those dudes, make sure to check them and Tactic's music out. A lot to learn from those talented cats. Here's the group shot from the end of the night where I look like a ghost.

On Friday we headed over to Friends of Sound, a seriously dope record store run by DJ Coolhands, where I could have seriously broken some heavy bread but I had to restrain myself. While Mike dj'ed for the in store party with a keg in the middle of the floor, me and Doug kicked off the dance party.

After copping some serious heat and scarfing down some texmex down the street we headed over to the Fader fort just in time to catch my man DJ Day. Day is an AMAZING producer and stellar dj, he completely killed it and set it off for this huge crew of breakers out of Chicago.

After some drinks and a dope sushi dinner back at Silhouette, Doug Surreal started twisting some knobs and doin thangs that are far beyond my comprehension. He and Mike played an ill fuzzed out set of bangin homeade beats and reverbed scratching. Honestly, out of all the things I saw this weekend I have the most trouble describing this 'cause there was so much going on. You just gotta see hear these dudes to understand.

King Most was in the building looking like a bug.

Day took the stage at Silhouette mere hours after the Fader house and once again it was on.

We caught the last bit of Federation's set at the Beauty Bar and they completely destroyed it.

First thing on Saturday I started things off with my set at the Fader house. It was mad fun and I unloaded about 100 CD's in 15 minutes!

The homie Vin Sol showed up brandishing a choco taco and some noises by cougars.

I was psyched or something...yeah.

Then we headed over to Sabbath in the Park.

It was a whole grip of folks drinking and blasting some Sabbath. In the Park. Dudes.

Vin Sol got buck, took his shirt off, and talked about why he might of did it to DJ Ayres:

Manny aka DJ Magneto, from Santa Barbara, is seriously the chillest dude I have ever met, completely unflappable and gives off nothing but mellow vibes. He is a good DJ and extremely dude. Matter of fact, he's the type of dude to hand you a jug of corn whiskey and sit back and watch you play yourself super hard from getting so wasted and just look at you like "wow."

After Sabbath in the Park (dudes) it was back to Fader House to catch The Rub and Redman. First up was DJ Eleven and he murdered it with a set of breaks and funk type thangs. Set the vibe perfectly for the rest of the night and got everyone open.

I was kicking back on the side lettin the corn whiskey kick in and drinkin free Bud selects (yuch) with the dudes King Most, DJ Day, and Cosmo Baker.

After Redman, DJ Ayres got on and killed it with a set bouncing from region to region, starting with Chicago then heading over to the Bay donning the stunner shades:

Trackademicks repped extra hard for the Bay during Ayres' hyphy set.

and feeling the extra corn whiskey fueled pride for the Bay I jumped in as well:

After another bangin' texmex dinner with some friends, I headed back over to Silhouette where dinner was winding down and DJ Day's birthday extravaganza was just kicking off.

so yeah, here's where things start getting a little fuzzy:

ooookaaayyyy.....
and somehow, King Most and I managed to pull off an ill late night spur of the moment 2X4 set? Yeah don't ask me how. We had Cosmo rappin over me cuttin doubles of California Soul? Whaaa? Witness the effects of corn whiskey in the following vid, followed minutes later by razor sharp focus on the 1's and 2's. Again, I have no idea how I pulled it off. This is Mike 2600's video SXSW recap:

Sunday afternoon, maaaad hungover and pretending to smoke while bumping reggae in the car:

We was on our way to:

This is a serious, serious bbq spot a half hour out of Austin where you wait for an hour for a table but its all good 'cause these guys are playing country music in the meantime while you drink some homeade lemonade.

This is where all dat maeat gaets preparred varrmit. Not a good place for a *cough cough* vegetarian named King Most to be.

oohhhhh goodness gracious...

Mike had the peach cobbler for dessert...

while I delivered my sermon on why, in fact, blackberry cobbler is THE TRUTH.

For this incredible, inspirational weekend I would like to thank:
Mike The 2600 King, Doug Surreal, King Most, DJ Day, Vin Sol, Tactic, Smalltown DJ's, Nick Catchdubs, DJ Ayres, Cosmo Baker, DJ Eleven, Ian Meyer, DJ Mel, DJ Stef, Serge, Skratch Bastid and his manager Mike, DJ Sun, Manny aka DJ Magneto, J Boogie, Matt Sonzala, Princess Language, Bitch Ass Darius, DJ Grocery and his lady friend, Drue, Min Chou, Trent and all the staff at Silhouette, Justin Kay, Meredith, 215 the Freshest Kids, DJ Swayzee, DJ Coolhands and the staff at Friends of Sound, and everyone who contributed to this HUUGE stack of CD's that I'm gonna go listen to now. I know I'm forgetting some people 'cause I met so many this weekend but just get at me anytime people. Until next time,
Peace,
DJ Morse Code
