....................
I wanted to update folks on what’s been going
on since the finalization of the album.
I’ve been waiting around because, for this album, I’ve tried to do a
couple of new things. ....
.. ..
Read the Labels....
The
first thing is that I’ve been in dialogue with record labels, distribution,
promotion and marketing companies. Why
you ask? As an independent artist, you
may get to the point where you exhaust yourself. The other reason is because you do not want
to exhaust your resources. Having a
heavy schedule consistently can drain your resources and expose you to half way
productions. ....
.. ..
At
this point in the game, I’m not enticed by smooth talking and can be realistic
about my options. I can determine if the
opportunities they offer are feasible ones. With this idea you can being to ask if record
labels can be partners in your project?
Those whom I’ve spoken to record labels and industry heads seem to have
a sincere excitement about the album. ....
.. ..
Some
call it different, some categorize it in the same arena with artists I respect,
some say, “wow, I’ve never heard someone spit in Mexi…I mean Spanish like that…great
stuff man.” Hahaha…estoy gueyes…....
.. ..
So
far Delicious Vinyl has been pretty open about what they are offering, but
after weighing the options, and recognizing that labels are seriously hurt by
the digital market and the economy, it
seems that it’s best to move along the path we’ve been setting for ourselves. In other words, I’ll just keep on building on
my networks and continue to expand my audience.
As a side note, some label reps and execs are also tired of half ass
music, but see themselves in a dilemma when people don’t purchase thought
provoking music…whose fault is this?....
.. ..
Now,
the idea with this cd is, yes, to expand my audience. How?
Play anywhere they will not censor me.
Why? Because I firmly believe in people and people’s ability to think
critically, move and make change. The
monster on the other hand, believes that we are slaves capable only of taking
orders.....
.. ..
Compromise
and hypocrisy are things that are repeated and perpetuated by
circumstance. With our mistakes, virtues
and vices we learn and move forward.....
.. ..
On the road....
Things
have been amazing. The response to the new music has been overwhelmingly
positive. I’ve traveled more than ever and
now with partner in crime, DJ Dubtonez the shows on the road have gotten
better. I’ve done some intense
discussions on decolonization, imperialism and people of color struggles and
shows with 30 people and others with 1,500 people…Some all people of color, all
raza, all black and even all white audiences.
It feels good to have a youngster say “thanks.” A youngster who in her
earlier days was shy and soft spoken, English is her second language, but now
organizes around immigration and lives in a mostly white community. A white college student buys 3 cds and says
he’ll give one to his professor and the other to his family. An hardcore hip hop head who is black and
says he didn’t know Mexicans could, “rock it like that.” A white environmentalist who is upset about
my corn grenade logo who says, “Why did you have to pick a grenade?” “A
sorority girl dogs us as we walk by, her sisters are listening to The Game and
sun tanning in front of their sorority home below the greek letters in clear
sight of all who passes on a street filled with underage drinkers on a street
filled with empty bottles, empty plastic cups some small some big on a street
that marks a body that slipped after stepping on vomit or maybe piss. A street whose homes belonged to plantation owners
and now are occupied by their offspring that attend a liberal university. It’s
the same university who has a minority population of dedicated beautiful people
willing to live in a place that vomits privileges on streets, hallways and even
classes…a group of students that day by day event by event created “vomit free”
and liberated spaces.....
.. ..
At
home, I hope to perform most of the shows with the live band…“Olmeca and the
‘94 Rebellion?” “Olmeca and the Mexico ’94?”
“Olmeca and the L.A. Rebellion” I don’t know yet, maybe it’ll just be
Olmeca for now.....
.. ..
I
want to thank all of you who have truly shown sincere support. I continue to travel all around the U.S.
because of you and because you believe in what my music can provide. Tlazokamatli!....
.. ..
In
a few days, please go to Facebook or myspace to view pictures from Tucson,
Phoenix and Madison shows.....

Pa’lante
pues, no hay de otra!....
