Last night I went to see Ronnie Montrose and Edgar Winter with my drummer Jim. Their two bands were playing a show at the Ridgefield playhouse. I worked with Ronnie a few years ago, he got one of the first Captain Coconut pedals and I did some custom work on his Maestro PS-1 Phaser pedals. And Edgar's guitarist Doug Rappaport had bought our Sunface NKT a while ago, so I was able to hook up with two great guitarists in one night!

Got to hang with Ronnie before the show a little, he was looking forward to playing with Edgar on "free ride" as they have only Played together a few times in the last 30 years (Ronnie was in Edgar's band in the early 70s before he started his solo band).

Ronnie's band played a hard rocking set, the singer was awesome, did Sammy Hagar's parts perfectly and the rest of the band was tight too. Ronnie had a great tone even though he had to use rental amps as usual when touring away from home. Ronnie was using his Captain Coconut-II, I think his only pedal. The full- house crowd was really into the show too.

I got to meet Edgar and his guitarist Doug Rappaport backstage during Ronnie's set. Edgar is a serious musician and was getting all the saxophones etc ready. He's looking quite well and was very considerate to allow me to take a photo while he was busy. I have fixed pedals for his brother Johnny, who lives nearby in CT.

After the 1st set Edgar's band played, and  Doug Rappaport played some AMAZING guitar! His solo was awesome, not only with speed and dexterity but very nice touch and emotions. This is one guitarist to watch... the bass player was also really good, getting some thick envelope filter sounds on some tunes. Edgar was singing well too, and really getting into it. Ronnie came onstage again for FREE RIDE and everyone loved it, unfortunately Ronnie had to leave after that to get to NYC.

Frankenstein was anticipated and it was extended with all the great parts including Edgar's famous drum solo, and he played on his "strap on" keyboard. I had seen Edgar back in the day and it was great to see him again. After this, he is off to join Ringo with his All Star Band's tour.

It was a great night, hope to work with these guys some more and find something for Edgar :)
