After reading Othello, in Mr. Holcomb's class, we were assigned a poem. One day after class, he was trying to explain iambic pentameter to my sophomore-self. When I finally started grasping the concept, he challenged me to write a poem in iambic pentameter to practice my rhythm. And here it is:
~~~~~~~~~
The shining star looks out across the skies
it gazes on the face of the cool moon.
Across the shooting comet as he flies,
and at the firey sun to see it swoon.
She watches, looking at the diamond rings
of other stars inside the milky way.
Alas, it is alone here that she sings
out here where for eternity she'll stay.
At once, she jumped and out of darkness crept
and then released the brightness she had kept.
~~~~~~~~~~~
Not bad for a first sonnet, eh? lol.
