(a worthless poem)

It begins with a touch and a tender love note
It ends as a harsh, helpless croak in your throat
It begins with the miles flying under you wheels
and it ends with a hole in your heart that won’t heal
It begins in the spring and it ends in the dark
It begins and it ends with two different sparks
and a promise to always be friends….
It begins and it ends.

It begins with the pilgrim’s most passionate pledge
It ends with your wheels spinning over the edge
It begins with want banishing all fear and shame
It ends with a finger tapping out tattoos of blame
It begins with the passion of wild, raging beasts
and it ends with the therapists, lawyers and priests
and the lost hope of making amends
it begins and it ends.

It begins with a voice you have longed so to hear
It ends with a notepaper stained by a tear
It begins in the chances you take to trust
It ends on a heel turning ‘round in the dust
It begins slow and uncertain and it ends hot and quick
It begins with “you’re beautiful” and ends with “you’re sick”.
You both attack and no one defends
It begins and it ends

It begins with cake and it ends with pie
It begins with a lay and it ends with a lie
It begins in a mist, with the road unclear
It ends in lipstick on a bathroom mirror
it begins when you lower your gathered reserve
it ends when you get what you truly deserve
and it just gets too hard to pretend.
It begins and it ends.

Ohhhh! Ow! Paul, you really pierced me there!

My feelings are so hurt!  I now see my writing for what it is and will give up immediately.

Thank you for making the world a better place by ridding it of one more worthless scribbler!

(How is it I attract these morons?)

Even when you don't try, you nail it. This is at the very least a wondetrfully clear organization of thought - every line could be a poem in itself.

Donna D is on holidays! :)

Anything but worthless, Seb...

Deep; reflective; insightful; heart wrenching in many ways... and often true...

I've been married 17 1/2 yrs, with no end in sight... but I can recall times when we almost went there. But on reading this at the moment, I'm relating it more to friendships...

And isn't this a familiar scenario: "It begins with “you’re beautiful” and ends with “you’re sick”." Too sad! Too sad... but so real...

It's a great poem, Seb...

It's the 'half' that keeps me holding on for the next 'year' - gotta get that anniversary present...   (I hope I choose something good next year! )

When I read your reply in Hotmail just now, I came here knowing what you had written; it grieved my heart on your behalf... and the first thing I noticed on opening this was the amount of Kudos you have - and all of it formed together and had me thinking "Better to have one close friend than so many distant Kudos, ay..."

I don't know why, Seb, and I haven't pursued the matter, and though I am sure you don't intend for it to be this way, your heart calls to mine often... There's just something about the hidden depths of your heart that awakens mine...

If you ever need a shoulder, I have two...

With love and respect, and a sincere heart
Me...

Stella - HEYYY STELLAHHH!

Did you write this recently? because,

It beguns with “you’re beautiful” and ends with “you’re sick”.

Is either prophetic or terribly cruel depending on when you wrote it.

But I like it, you cruel prophet

Very recently. I had no intention of ever posting it, though. It came as a last minute substitute for the intended poem, which I felt was too similar in style to last week's to sit back-to-back.

I freely acknowledge this is not one of my better efforts, poetically or politically.

Such a sad true poem . Makes me want to cry .  So True and such a pity it is. When I'm leaving this world I'll shed a tear for all the beautiful that somehow turned ugly for we did not have strength enough and beauty and maybe surety to keep it that way. Such a very sad poem . Made me sad but Beautifully written .
