You know; call me whatever you want.
In 2002, the Russian, sexually-charged/enigmatic duo t.A.T.u. released 200km/h in the Wrong Lane. While achieving marginal success in the U.S., it was widely received in the other markets. One of the singles from the album was a cover of the teen-anthem "How Soon Is Now" by The Smiths. While they were not the first to do so, they managed to do it with a bit of grace (thanks largely to big-label, Russian producers). "Not too interested" you say. Enter the remix.
I, with the help of the blogosphere, happened across a "stretch" remix - not unlike the "Chopped and Screwed" method of remixing by DJ Screw (r.i.p.) from Houston, TX. At first I thought the mp3 was corrupted. When I figured out what the "remix-artist," if you will, was trying to do, I let my guard down and slowly gave in to the surprisingly wonderful vocals. The stretching process gives the rest of the track a sonic, almost robotic feel.
I am not saying that this is the "Freakin' best remix ever." I am simply expressing my surprise and delight. Give it a chance. You might like it: REMIX
