Dorothy 6 was the first art gallery to be located in Braddock. The town is about 6 miles east from downtown Pittsburgh. Due to the lack of assistance by local administration to secure a building of its own, the art and performance space will move its efforts to the neighborhood of Bloomfield in Pittsburgh and be renamed The Nerve. Mancuso, the founder and curator, maintains a Braddock residency and will continue the search to secure a new location for Dorothy 6 in Braddock.
Dorothy 6 was named after a dismantled Duquesne blast Furnace 'Dorothy' which employed many of the residents of the Mon Valley when in operation. US Steel shut down the furnace which meant the loss of many jobs and a further decline of Braddock's population and economy. Braddock is still home to United States Steel Corporation’s J. Edgar Thomson Works which is in operation. It is also home to America’s oldest Carnegie Library.
Dorothy 6 was opened in December 2006 when curator Mancuso moved exhibitions from ON in Garfield and relocated to Library Street. Mancuso opened the venue with the 'T-shirt Show Part II', exhibiting hand made t-shirts from 30 Pittsburgh Locals with films by Tony Buba, and live music from Fuck Telecorpse.
