"Los Shapis" came about at a time in Peru when the Maoist group "Sendero Luminoso" was gaining a lot of momentum and there was a lot of people coming down from the Andes and making shanty towns, "pueblo jovenes", outside of Lima. Los Shapis sang about the life of these new urban dwellers, the "cholitos" that had to leave their mountain way of life and figure out the ways of the city.

To el "Chapulin del Pueblo", the lead singer, Chicha music was a city in itself where people of all social strata lived and worked, he sang about the ambulantes, the drunks, the students, the doctors, and every other inhabitant of la ciudad CHicha. Damn, I like that view of music, enjoy.
