..StartFragment --> My parents had to make the gut wrenching decision today to put down our 16 year old dog Cara. She had a wonderful life and was rescued at 6 months. I remember not liking her because I thought she was ugly, and had a funny tail "like a rope"
But it turned out she just needed a little love (and a haircut!) She has been there for me through thick and thin. She licked my tears when I cried, barked and wagged her tail when I laughed until I teared up.
I remember when I was really sick in 1996, and a friend had given me a teddy bear. Later that night Cara jumped up on the bed to comfort me...well actually she jumped up, stole the bear then ran out of the room. It was hers from that day on.
I knew this day would come and I thought since I haven't lived at home for almost 10 years that it wouldn't hurt so much. I'm numb.
I feel sorry for my parents and my mom most of all. She is the one who was home day in and day out with Cara. She won't hear that jingle of her collar in the morning. She went peacefully and my parents stayed with her. I'm really going to miss her.
I don't know what to do really other than cry. And get drunk. Life is really shit sometimes.
