Tips for Donating
Help prepare yourself for a positive experience by following these seven tips.
2-3 Days Before You Donate
1. Drink plenty of water to remain healthy and keep your blood pressure normal. 2. Eat healthy, iron rich foods such as beef, fish, poultry, nuts, green leafy vegetables, eggs, whole grains and raisins. Vitamin C helps increase iron absorption. 3. Avoid fatty foods that may make your blood donation difficult to test and transfuse.
Day of Donation
4. Drink water but avoid caffeninated beverages that tend to dehydrate you. 5. Eat a good meal, but not too heavy, 2-3 hours prior to donating. 6. Drink a bottle of water a half hour before you plan to donate. 7. Relax and do some vital volunteer work lying down!
