Current mood:  contemplative

It's such a shame that BBC local radio doen't really support those artists that are gigging around the regions (save in Scotland & Wales..) by playing more of their music on air. Most of the people I meet up with in Festivals, travelling up & down the length and breadth of this country wind up being ignored by media here. Bands like Nine Below Zero, Connie Lush & Blueshouter, Show of Hands and artists like Eddie Martin, Sally Barker, the Two-Timers, Vin Garbutt, etc get very little time on radio, though they've been performing regularly for years. Sure, we have Paul Jones & Mike Harding, but for an hour a week... what generosity! I love Bob Harris' shows, but the scheduling is slated to make us feel like anoraks!

As great as an opportunity as the internet is, it doesn't replace radio as a place where most artists make a break. Each musician in even My Space has become like a grain of sand on a vast beach hoping that someone will recommend enough people to their site to gain interest from the serious deal makers in London or elsewhere. Hey! It's a jungle out there!

Couldn't agree more, Adrian.

Radio is the place for listening to music when there's not a live act on somewhere at the time.

And, the geographical chauvanism is sometimes a bit much to bear: London exists; so do small venues in Wales and Scotland; and there may be a small excursion to Manchester, Birmingham or Leeds (depending on which one's hip at the moment). But, world, believe it or not, great music happens in other places (Grimsby, for instance, he said, knowingly).

Keep up the good work and keep the music coming.

Roger

Yeah , the problem being that most people in Grimsby won't come out to see a decent gig. I's X-Facor and Tribute Bands... Pandering for lesser tastes and aspirations.

Oh well.. comedians & football players have become the 'new' Musos. Hell... DJ's get paid more than us nowadays. Let's hear it in cultural Britain...
