Current mood: happy
should have probably written down some memories a little sooner after we got home, but better late than never!
The UK tour we did in May with THROATS was amazing, we had a great time! THROATS couldn't have been nicer guys and we loved seeing them live every night too. Totally ripping hardcore with an intricate edge, they are great so check them out if you haven't already. Thanks so much to Alex from HOLY ROAR RECORDS too, without him and THROATS the tour would have never happened! And thanks to Ben for driving too, you rule!
Highlights included getting to the club in Middlesborough on the first night and having a room set up for use backstage FULLY stocked with more food and drinks than we've probably gotten in our 5 years as a band! PLUS the promoter got us all hotel rooms that night, he was a champ! Musical highlight was THROATS every night, they rule, other good bands were Ergon Carosel, Drunk in Hell, Annihilist, and there were others! Sorry if I forgot some, I am going to try and update this again later.
We also loved playing soccer in the park in Nottingham, eating lots of fried food and a fried Mars bar again, shopping at Tescos supermarket, and hanging out with THROATS because they're good people!
Funniest moment.... well, I would have to say that the night we played in Brighton at the GREAT ESCAPE FESTIVAL would have to take the cake. Great Escape is kind of like the UK version of South by Southwest or CMJ fest, it's held in Brighton which is a town by the sea with a pebbly beach. We played there in 2006 when we were over there, and loved the town so were excited to get back.
The showcase we played on (which was for Holy Roar Records) was held at a gay club with a stage that was shaped like a dick! Never thought we'd be playing on one of those, so that was quite an accomplishment! After our set we all kind of split up and a few of us went to see Juliette Lewis' new band down at this place Concorde II which is right by the sea, and was actually where we'd played last time we were in Brighton (we played there with Kamikazee and Wolf Eyes).
Anyways, Juliette's band sucked so we went out to the van to hang out.... at which point somebody suggested taking a walk to the beach to have a smoke. While we were out there William and I are talking, reflecting on how lucky we felt to have hooked up with these guys and thinking back on the tour and all the fun we'd had, as this was one of the last shows of the tour. Then the unthinkable happened.... when we got back to the van it was discovered that the ONLY set of van keys had been lost on the beach! It was pitch black, 2am, and we had no place to stay- we'd been planning on sleeping in the van! Classic Spinal Tap-esque moment!
So we ended up having to stay up until dawn to send somebody back to London on a train to get another key from van rental place so we could make it to the next (and last) show in Birmingham! William and I slept in the train station terminal that night, and we did get a key and make it to the next show, but it was quite an adventure.
The rest of the tour went very smoothly and there are so many great memories from it all, but that has to go down as the most hilarious moment!
Thanks again to all who were involved in making that tour happen, we appreciate it.
later! Omid/Battletorn
