Put aside the prejudice

When young band members class themselves as 'rock', it's tempting to dismiss them out of hand.

They're not old enough to know the real meaning of rock, you can chuckle.
And here's another one of those bands that will get you thinking the same.
Not into drugs and not sprawled in a gutter somewhere, Freefold's cover can come across as far too simple and the name doesn't scream 'rock' at you either.
But slip these (half) pint sized rockers on the stereo, and it's a different matter.
Their new single Catch Me If You Can has the potential to be one of the most anthemic songs of 2007.
There are plenty of dirty little riffs, a sound tighter than a scene kid's jeans and a vocalist whose growl matches the rawness of James Hetfield...impressive.
Lyrically, the band are way ahead of their years — though in places they could be seen as slightly tedious.
Take, for example, the main chorus "I'm a rock star man, come on and catch me if you can" - but other than that, this single is on its way to being a success.
So put aside your ignorance and your prejudice and you'll find Freefold the perfect band to get on the hi-fi in the summer weather.
Catch Me If You Can is on sale now at Hudsons, Chesterfield.
