Current mood: adventurous
So I played at The Sidewalk Cafe in the East Village for the first time a week ago. I can confidently say that it was my best performance as a wizard rock. I was really feelin' it. I think I was holding back some tears on the sadder songs.
The NYC Meetup group (Group That Must Not Be Named) for Harry Potter is AMAZING. Those people are welcoming, kind, cool, slick...mostly Slytherins...I love it!
I was lucky enough to have Alastor (the male vocalist on my TWIN CORES album) come along with for the Sidewalk Cafe show. Someone told me that our duet, "Eyes" makes them cry. Amazing. We're such downers! AWESOME.
I did five songs on my own and then ended the set with Alastor. I felt amazing. It was such a great environment.
As many of you know, because I'm not afraid to admit it: I am a very rudimentary rhythm guitarist. I am originally a clarinetist, that's always been my main instrument...but when I wanted to write songs with lyrics, I picked up a guitar and faked it till I maked it (sort of. I am almost there with it).
The reason I mention this is because at the Sidewalk Cafe, I finally FINALLY felt confident singing and playing and not obsessively looking at my left hand. Some people probably even thought I knew what I was doing! And THAT is called FAKING IT TILL YOU MAKE IT. haha.
On Thursday I headed out to a small but warm and welcoming Harry Potter house party on Staten Island. There was a German TV crew there who filmed the night and was doing a bit about wizard rock on their show that is broadcasted in France and Germany. So, that was really cool. They interviewed me even!
I was a bit tired on Thursday, so I wasn't as on par as I was at Sidewalk but I gave a pretty soulful perfomrance.
They broadcasted both shows live on blogtv so that was stellar. Technology is fun. Its great that more people can see wizard rock from far away.
Looking back, I mean...this past year I've played some really fun shows. My uncle (who is a musician and great friend of mine) says I should tour. Just go for it and do it. I honestly am scared to to that.
A list of the most fun shows I've done: Evil Day with TGTSNBM last winter Wizards Witches and Pancakes: March 08 @ IHOP in NJ TERMINUS: Wrock Chicago August 08 WROCK for Darfur Poughkeepsie, NY August 08 Wizard Rock Weekend @ The NY Renaissance Faire August 08 The NYC Wizard Rock Festival Brooklyn NY September 08 The Sidewalk Cafe NYC February 09 Thom's in Staten Island February 09
Fun list. I love it. It makes me feel accomplished for something that until very very VERY recently was a SIDE PROJECT.
I know there was a report on Wizard Wireless Network that said I was to have a Blues EP (12 Foot Blues) out this month. It'll be out NEXT month, I'm so sorry. I wanted to ad more to it and make things REALLY REALLY perfect.
Hopefully TWIN CORES (the Duet CD feat Alastor) will be up on iTunes soon. I'll definately keep you all posted. But you can download it from the link in the last blog if you don't want to pay.
I'm not about making money with Nagini. I am about a sense of community and love. If I DO go on tour I'll obviously have all four CDs (Sucking Up to Slughorn, The Snake Bite EP, Twin Cores and 12 Foot Blues) plus some really fun tee shirts and merch that I've been devising. And all of that money will go right into feeding Nagini as a project and feeding me :). LOL
So, here we go: If I go on tour, where should I go? I want to visit people who want to see me, so please leave a blog comment if you're a fan of my songs and you want me to come to your town.
I'll see what I can do :)
