Whenever I meet readers at a book signing or interview, I'm always asked two questions: Will you ever do a novel about your vampires' origins OR will you ever do a novel about your first War? After 'Rage' was published, I started getting requests for a book about Kersey and her life. Luckily, I can make all of these things happen in one book.
My next project, which is called 'Birth of the Vampire' will chronicle the Kersey Avonwood (one of my 'first' vampires if you're not familiar). It will span the course of her life and will include the origins of my vampires as well as a detailed account of the first War. I'm very happy to have the opportunity to work on this project.
It will be told from Kersey's voice, from her point of view. The format will be set up like a journal, although it will not be an epistolary novel. I had toyed with the idea of making it a series of 'accounts' or 'witness reports' but quickly decided against it. If I wanted the intimacy of her voice, the truth of her past, then it was going to have to be in her words and through her eyes. I think you guys are really going to like it.....
And on a final note, War of the Vampire has been finished and is nearly finalized. I'm currently tweaking the artwork and approving the text. I look for it to be on shelves around September. This trilogy was certainly a labor and although I'm glad it's finished, I'm still a little depressed that it came to an end. Those characters are near and dear to my heart. I hope you all like the places I left them.
