The Motel and Red Doors on DVD!

This is it! The last stop on the distribution chain. The mecca for all films... The DVD release. They are out today and available where most DVDs are (Amazon.com or direct from Palm Pictures [for The Motel]).

This coming out party wouldn't be half as exciting without having a friend there to enjoy it too. Which is why I am psyched that by coincidence, my good friend Georgia Lee's film "Red Doors" is also coming out today.

You can actually buy the two together at Amazon as a package deal. Kind of like the yin and yang of Indie Asian American film. "Red Doors" is a quirky sweet story of three Chinese American sisters growing up in the suburbs of Connecticutt. "The Motel" is a quirky sweet story of a Chinese American boy growing up in a seedy motel. You basically cover the gender and class gamut of the Chinese American experience in one fell swoop. It's the perfect balance for a double feature date night. You pop in "Red Doors" and show your girl/boy that you have a sensitive sid, then you throw in "The Motel" to show her/him how you also like to get down and dirty.

The Motel DVD is also loaded with extras including:

* a behind-the-scenes doc
* commentary track by me (dir. Michael Kang), Sung Kang and Jeffrey Chyau
* other cool stuff.

The Red Doors DVD has it's share too with:

* Commentary by director and producer
* "Behind Red Doors" featurette
* "Educated": a short film by Georgia Lee
* and more.

To celebrate this tandem release, Rice Daddies and Kimchi Mamas are holding a contest to win both films (as well as signed posters). It's a little more challenging than the angryasianman contest because you actually have to recount a funny story about one of your parents. But I'm sure you all have plenty of those.

Please help spread the word. Buy it. Rent it. Netflix it. Live it.
