Current mood:  sad
Frenzy received sad news yesterday . An old friend and former popular roadie for Frenzy , Nutty Dave ( Ayres ) sadly and tragically was killed in a road traffic accident at approx 5.30 pm on Sunday 25th January 2009 . It appears that a car pulled out in front of Dave whilst he was riding his Harley and as he swerved to avoid the car , he then collided with a parked vehicle.
To say that we found this news to be shocking would be an understatement ! Dave was our roadie , alongside his partner in  nuttiness , Psycho Kev ( Wyatt ), from 1983 thru to 1987 and as our crew during the Klubfoot years , they became as popular as the band ! They even appeared on the centre labels of both the I See Red 7'' and 12'' e.p's ! Their pictures made it onto countless other Frenzy record / CD sleeves . Dave and Kev came on many European Tours with us and were part of the family. Dave in particular struck a chord with Steve Whitehouse's own family and even went along on one or two family holidays in the early 80's. Steve first met Dave when Whitehouse was only 13 years old , which is practically 30 years ago . Dave was stood outside Virgin Records in Broadmead , Bristol with his pet rat on his shoulder!! The 2 guys hit it off straight away ( mainly due to the fact that they both had quiffs and loved Rockabilly ! ) and this friendship lasted for 30 years . Dave actually lent Frenzy the money to buy their first tour bus in 1985 and it has to be said that when Dave Ayres was doing Frenzy stage security , the guys always felt safe on stage !!
As time moved on , Dave decided his days as a roadie were over and he branched out into the wild and wonderful world of Tattooing . It not only suited him , he excelled at it and in recent years has become a World renown , award winning tattooist , gaining recognition from tattoo artists across the globe !! His shop , Skin Deep in Bristol ( where he worked with his old long term friend / twin , the well known Ozzy ) was a popular place for all the ole 'billy's and many others besides!!
Nutty Dave Ayres has so much history ...we could go on forever...he was a zany and colourful character and we will miss him immensely ! Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family , friends and associates...may you be strong !!
Dave ...you will be in our thoughts forever mate . Lets hope they have tattoo parlours in Heaven !

Sad news indeed, met him many times and although he scared me at first, I always knew that if he was with you all, you would be safe. His friends and family are in our thoughts. Chris, Dave and Adam.

What a shock this on. Not knowing him personally I still feels like a family member is missing. He was a charachter in the psychobilly world of the 80's and 90's. So many funny crazy and idiot stories going around about this guy. Sad sad sad.

dave taught me all i know as an artist and since ozzy called with the news it feels like a constant kick in the guts,, my pain must be nothing compared to anna and the kids and to ozzy with whom dave and he were two halves of a whole bouncing there humour seemlessly between each other!! there is a massive hole in the world now and the partys weve all had will never be the same .. to all daves friends (of which there are many) i truly am sorry and share in your loss ,, i never respected any man for truth as much as i do dave and am already missing him and his lasting puuuuurp !!!
so heads up to one of the best friends ive ever had ,,, and i love ya dave ( but not in a faggot way!)

Tragic. But at least it can be said that he lived a colorful and exciting life.

Gutted to hear this news, spent many nutty nights at Meteors ,Guanabatz, Frenzy, Firebirds, Col.Kilgores etc and many crazy nights at the Rockpile. Dave was a great bloke even after 25 years, thinking about him makes me smile.Always a cheeky smile. A real loss. He was one of Bristols best loved characters. R.I.P. Deepest condolences to his family.
