Hiya Phil,
My son showed this to me and I thought you might be interested, if you don't already know about it!!
OR
he is doing his last presentation on balls of lightning or do you say lightning balls??

Well, at least they give you directions to build your own "hexalifter". I have not heard of this device but I see strings attached in the photo, at least carrying electrical current. Can't now understand how it works. Science takes time to "do the homework". Don't believe in a connection between electrostatics and gravity. There's alot of hog wash out there, even in the military "science". But who knows? Maybe there is. So I watched the wideo and it really looks like it is powered by electrostatics. with a 20KV power supply there is alot of electric field running around. It looks like it is stabilized by the 3 nylon strings holding it to the ground. But that is just my first cut at what is going on here. If you guys are still interested in the phenomena tomorrow, I';ll keep on researching it. Might make a nice Myth Busters type activity.
Ball lightening is another really hard to prove or disprove.

Great, Phil, thankyou for looking.
this is also something my son showed me, connected, but about plasma. this is all new land for me, I don't know what plasma is, just that tvs are made out of the stuff nowdays!! Even LCD is different, right?
Well, something for you to converse with him about. I can't promise you that he will still be interested about all this tomorrow as you said!!!
(today it's ball lightening)

Ok, Ok, so hexalifters are out and ball lightening is in. Looks like this guy Jean-Louis Naudin is up to his old tricks again. They don't really know what ball lightening is and just because the fireworks in this experiment look like ball lightening doesn't mean you have the same phenomena. Seeking out the truth is boring. Jumping to conclusions is exciting. Sorry to rain on your parade.

Dear Phil,
OK,OK, I will pass on your uncle's opinion to your nephew!!! He gets all excited at things like this, and naturally he wants to be some sort of inventor and discover omething that will allow him to shovel the money in.... Shortcut stratagy is his motto, as well as let's beat the system..... sigh,,,.. I hope he will come to his senses soon!
Love from a sister of yours, Thanks for your input.

Don't get me wrong, it would be really cool to try some of these experiments and speculate what is going on. And don't forget it is not unlikely that society's greatest contributions go unpaid. Take your baby, for example. What a great contribution to humanity. But the baby will cost you big time to raise etc. Ok, and inventing is no exception. Take AT&T Bell labs invention of the transistor. Great discovery! Bell labs has deep pockets too, when it comes to fighting legal battles, but what was the monetary return to AT&T Bell Labs, or AT&T for that matter, on the transistor? Damn near nil. It was up to other companies (IBM, Digital, Oracle etc.) to grow and die some making money, others not. So there is a big difference between inventing something and making money on it. I surmize making money has to be your top priority, way more than science or engineering of ideas. So trying to sell an imaginary idea is probably more profitable than fleashing out a bona fide invention. Take car salesmen, they lie, cheat and suspend the laws of physics to sell cars. It is more about the human psyche than science. People have money, science itself has no money.
Yer yeah y'all bro Phil
