AFRICA HI-FI is proud to celebrate our 5 YEAR ANNIVERSARY with you all on SATURDAY JULY 11th at Sonotheque!
And
we are even more excited to bring in some female energy to our event
with our special guest, RASHIDA (L.A.) Djing with AHF's Master Resident
DJ RON TRENT!
SONIA H. as always is there to welcome you and is devoted to making your AFRICA HI-FI experience blissful!
In
the last ten years, DJ RASHIDA has established herself as one of the
most sought after female DJs in the world. She has played her signature
fusion of hip-hop, pop, electro, rock, funk, soul, reggae, and house
around the globe.
In 2004, Rashida started spinning at The House
of Blues on Sunset Strip, where she performed with artists including
Kanye West, The Roots, Jill Scott, and John Legend. While holding down
her weekly residency, Prince approached Rashida about a potential
collaboration. The collaboration blossomed into much more as Rashida
has become an integral part of Prince's live performance, touring
around the world with the mega-star as part of his live show as well as
spinning at all of his private parties.
Rashida was a featured
performer at Lollapalooza in 2006 and, building on her work with
Prince, Rashida's client list has exploded over the last several years
as she is frequently called upon to spin for a bevy of corporate and
celebrity clients including People, Italian Vogue, Pepsi, Nike, Miss
Sixty, Nylon, Jay-Z, Michael Jordan, Lisa Marie Presley, Jada Pinkett
Smith, and Kimora Lee Simmons. Rashida is currently starring on MTV's
hit reality show America's Best Dance Crew and is the star of Honda's
Chris Robinson-directed "Red Hood" series of commercials set to air in
April 2009.

"In
addition to being one of the best parties in the city in terms of
musical talent and the diversity of the crowd, the monthly event
supports Next Aid and Amnesty International, among others."
- Stop Smiling
Spiritually
aware, deep music night Africa Hi-Fi comes back to Sonotheque for
another go-round. Resident Ron Trent has been a key figure in Chicago's
house explosion and was once resident and A&R man for New York's
Giant Step label. He dips into jazz, house and hip-hop...Whatever he
does, he always schools us properly. The gregarious Sonia Hassan
hosts."
-Time Out Chicago
"There's something to be said for
a party that promotes diversity in nightlife, good music and peace and
love over everything else. Africa Hi-Fi manages to do just that each
time it takes over Sonotheque, with superb dance music from legendary
DJ Ron Trent (who was praised by Sonotheque's Joe Bryl when we
interviewed him last year) and the earthy socialite skills of host
Sonia H. You may not be able to belly up to the bar for free booze, but
you can get a different kind of warm, fuzzy feeling by knowing that
Africa Hi-Fi supports NextAid and Amnesty International."

"A
human being is a part of the whole called by us universe, a part
limited in time and space. He experiences himself, his thoughts and
feeling as something separated from the rest, a kind of optical
delusion of his consciousness. This delusion is a kind of prison for
us, restricting us to our personal desires and to affection for a few
persons nearest to us. Our task must be to free ourselves from this
prison by widening our circle of compassion to embrace all living
creatures and the whole of nature in its beauty." -Albert Einstein
