Current mood:  rockin

Since a lot of information can get lost or misunderstood when communicating via email or through more than one person, I encourage all bands that will be playing Red Room to read this to possibly answer any questions and/or eliminate any confusion to determine if Red Room is where you want to play.  As you read the following  list you may think "Man, what a bunch of assholes!" and,  while you may be correct in that assumption, please keep in mind that all of these "guidelines" have been written because of past instances that could have been avoided if communication and common sense had played a bigger role.  So, on with the list:

*****RESTRICTIONS*****

AGE RESTRICTIONS:
*All band members and guests must be at least 21 years of age and have a CURRENT, VALID ID ready to show.  (This is a bar, after all and no, your 16 year old drummer can't wait in the kitchen until you play!)
We don't care what other venues do.  This is our policy and it is in place because that is what works best for us.

We are very strict on this rule and do not have any compassion for any performers thinking that they can work around this.
If you claim you are 21+ upon initial booking and show up without a current, valid ID, you will not play.  You will also not play if you have an ID that says you are of age, but has expired.  An expired ID is NOT A VALID ID; so, take a few hours (if that) and get it updated.

MUSICAL CONTENT:
*We will not book or support any form of blatantly malicious racist, sexist, or homophobic entertainment.
While we strongly believe in and support our rights to freedom of speech, we wish to keep Red Room a safe and welcoming venue for everybody; so, please keep this in mind when planning your live material.
GENERAL CONDUCT
While we are a business and we rely on decent turnouts for our shows, we will not put up with any behavior from the bands/performers or the crowds that show disrespect or do anything that may cause us to put our business at risk.
This means bringing in outside alcohol, trying to sneak in minors, tagging our property or getting obnoxiously drunk.
We all trust that you are "punk rock to the core" and are a "free spirit that cannot be tamed" - or whatever slogan you choose to wear on your sleeve, but you will expected to follow our guidelines while in our establishment or be politiely asked to leave and not return- regardless of how big your following and reputation is.

*****GENERAL INFO*****

*If you email us, asking for a show through MYSPACE, please make sure that your settings are open, so we can email you back with a reply.  If you are set to not accept friend requests or emails from bands, we cannot reply to your email and aren't going to jump through hoops. Make it easy to get a show confirmed!
* Before asking, or confirming a particular date, check with all your band mates FIRST, to check your collective availability and make sure you are able to play.
Although, this may seem like common sense to the majority of you reading this, we have had too many cancellations due to this issue.
As you would very well hate to be confirmed and then dropped from a bill because we didn't check the calendar, first; this is the same situation on our end.
*We do all IN HOUSE BOOKING ONLY!  If you have been asked to join a bill by another band, one of our bartenders or booking "agent"; it is advised that you contact us via email (or myspace)  to confirm that you are, indeed, booked for a particular date.  If you have not contacted us, and don't see your band on the calendar, do not assume that you are booked to play.  If you show up and you are not on the bill/calendar, you will not play!  We have not cancelled any bands that have been booked, thus far, and do not plan to, but if you don't have confirmation on a particular date, we will not push any other scheduled bands, in order to accomodate you.  We keep on top of our booking and so should you.
*ATTENTION:BANDS ASKING TO BOOK THE ENTIRE BILL.
If you are looking to put together the bill, it is then your responsibility to make sure that all bands are aware of our structure and how we operate, as well as your responsibility to keep communication with us to ensure that we don't have any gaps in scheduling.  If we give you a bill to book, it is expected that you will keep contact with us and have a show booked in a timely manner, otherwise, we will have to take back the remaining slots and get them filled.  We have enough to keep us busy on top of having to check in with you to see if you affairs in order.

*It is understood that every band and/or performer would love to play a Friday or Saturday, but the fact of the matter is that there just aren't enough weekends in the year to make that happen. While we have weekend slots opening up all the time,  if we haven't worked with you before or don't know what your draw is, we would prefer to start out on a weekday slot and see how it progresses from there.

*We try to accomodate for all bands/performers requesting particular time slots but, sometimes, for various reasons, it doesn't work out.
Unfortunatly, not everybody can have their "ideal" set time.  If this is an issue for you, please address this upon initial contact or find a way to make it happen.  Everybody has a band mate that "has work in the morning" so, you either suck it up and play or you don't.

At the moment, we only regulary have bands/performers scheduled Thursday-Sunday.  If you are passing through town and are looking for other places to play, some suggestions are:
Ash Street Saloon, Berbati's Pan, Blue Parrot, Dante's, Doug Fir, Hawthorne Theater, Kelly's Olympian, The Know, Rock and Roll Pizza, Rotture,  Slabtown, Tonic Lounge, Towne Lounge, Twilight Cafe, Twilight Club, World Famous Kenton Club...

*****CAPACITY*****

*We have been rated for a 107 person capacity.

*****PROMOTION*****

*Although, we do have a local "late night" draw,  it is safe to say that our show turnouts are 90% band related.  This meaning, don't slack on promoting your show because you are relying on the club or other bands to bring in the people.
Just like you would like to play to a room full of people, we would like to serve  a room full of people and the best way is to promote yourself.
We promote our bar, so you promote your band...it's only fair.

We currently promote our club and shows via club listings in the weekly portland papers and weekly myspace bulletins/emails.

*Please take  the extra time to do the  little things that help promote your show:
- Send out emails and bulletins reminding friends and radio stations about your show.
- Make up posters/flyers to drop off at the venue or post at record shops.  (these don't have to be expensive; creativity is what draws attention.)
*Please send hard copies so we can post them up around the club.  We don't have the time, nor the expenses to take a copy of every bands  jpeg to Kinkos to make posters.  Take that extra step to promote yourself.
- Send your demo/cd to written publications for possible reviews and/or show "write up's"

Here are some link that may be helpful in promoting your show:

  KUFO 101.1 FM (www.kufo.com)

*We do our best to keep on top of our booking and make sure all parties involved are well informed of any changes; so, it seems only fair that you give our club the same respect in return.
We understood that things change and some commitments cannot be met; but please let us know if you book a show and cannot make it.
Aside from taking a potential bill spot from another band that would love to play, it is just plain unprofessional.

*There is a big difference between 'exposure' and 'overexposure', when booking your band and it is important to the venues you book that you know the difference.
As we all want to play as many shows as possible but,  booking back to back shows, or similar, at different venues in the same city hurts the overall turnout and, unfortunatly, your draw is one of the most important aspects of the band/club relationship.

*****DOOR COVER/ FEE*****

cover fees vary from show to show but the minimum door cover is $3.

*****LOAD IN/ SHOW TIME INFO*****

*Load in for ALL performers is 8pm or 1 hour before the SHOW start time, not just before you or your band plays.
It is each bands responsibility to check/confirm load-in and start time.
(If you are the first band and show up at 9:15pm on a 9pm listed show because you "thought" the show was really going to start at 10pm, i would load in asap, because your set just got 15 minutes shorter!)

We REALLY stress the importance of being here at the correct load-in time, so we can make sure that all bands are accounted for, are 21+, have all possible issues handled well before showtime and are loaded in before the first band plays, as to not rudely interupt their set.

If you are not here by start of the show, and have not contacted us to confirm that you will still be showing up, we will adjust the bill accordingly for the bands that did show up for load-in.
(EXAMPLE:  If you are supposed to play second on a 3 band bill (10:30-11:15) but have not showed up for load-in and did not contact us in any way to let us know you are just running late and haven't "flaked" out.  We will adjust the time to accomodate a 2 band bill and the 1st band has a choice of starting a little later, or playing a little longer, meaning that there is a chance you will not play, at all.)

*All show start times are listed on this page and are current.
(although, situations arise, please do not assume that the shows will start later than posted.  We WILL NOT hold up the show an hour because you told everybody it started at 10pm and are waiting for a few friends.)

*On a usual  bill, music will start promptly at 9:00 and all bands on a 4 band bill  get 45 minute sets with 15 minute setup/teardown.
A  few minutes over/ under are expected but, for the sake of continuity and decency the neighbors and the other bands on the bill,  bands taking longer than 20 minutes to setup/teardown  will result in a shortened set time.

*Show order is determined by performers and/or the club during booking.  If order is not determined by show date then show order is decided by red room.

****COMPS AND PAYMENT****

DISCLAIMER: "You will not get rich or be able to quit your day job playing at RED ROOM!"

*Each band  gets 1 person on their guest list (1 band  =1 guest)

*If there is a cover charge for the evening, bands will be paid from the money collected from the door after $65 house overhead and divided accordingly.

*All performers/ bands must collect payment before they leave for the evening.  It is not our job to track you down and remind you to collect payment and we will NOT hold money to be picked up at a later date.

*Before solidifying a date, we ask all bands to take a look at our booking blog to ensure that we are all "on the same page".  This means that you adknowledge and accept our pay structure and therefore, do not have a valid arguement at the end of an evening if we didn't pay out as much as you would have liked to recieve.

*****STAGE, SOUND AND EQUIPMENT INFO*****

*There aren't any "house instruments" available.  All bands are expected to bring all of their own  gear or make arrangements to have gear ready for them when they play.  This includes  pics, strings, sticks, amps and  cables, ipods, cd players...

*The Stage Dimensions are:
-  20' x 20' x 1' w/ 8' ceilings (so "jumpers" need to watch their heads)
-  60' x 20' side area for band equipment.

*It is always helpful if your band knows it's "sound" and, more importantly, how to gauge a room.  Playing as loudly as possibly doesn't mean you "rock" that much harder.  It usually just makes it harder to give you a good monitor mix and irritating for the people in the room.
So, keep this in mind when you plan your 45 minute sonic assault, because  we have all heard good bands sound bad and you wouldn't want to be in that situation, would you?

* You are given 45 minute sets with 15 minute setup/teardown, but if you are chasing everybody out of the room, we will make suggestions as to how to keep the set tolerable.  If you refuse to cooperate, then for the sake of the other bands that play after you and our patrons, we will make adjustments for you.  Our threshold is extremely high and appreciate all forms of music/art; so, if it gets to that point, please realize that we are only doing it because it is for the good of the evening and it is not personal.

We encourage all performers to email or call with any questions, as they arise to avoid any issues at the time of the show.
Thank you,
 Red Room Booking

Roaring Lions

I was told we would have dressing rooms, showers, trainers, protein shakes, personal security guards, gift certificates to Sax 5th Ave. and two filled viagra prescriptions.  You want to add these items to the above list.
