Since there isn't going to be a memorial in the states, here is a little something written by Duck for Dickie:

RICHARD ALLAN “DICKIE” PETERSON
9/12/1946-10/12/2009
Dickie Peterson was my Bandmate, Business Partner, Friend and Teacher the driving force behind Blue Cheer who some called the godfathers of Metal, Punk, Grunge and Stoner. I’ve heard underrated, overrated, the greatest and the worst band of all time but one thing is for sure there was no middle ground on opinions of his band.
I like to think a hundred years from now researchers will try to figure out how it got from Muddy Waters to Godsmack and they will find Hendrix and Cream, Zeppelin and Sabbath and then they will scratch their heads and think something’s missing and then they’ll see it, it won’t be shiny and beautiful but raw and crude and a bit misshapen but there it is the missing link between all that was and all that is Blue Cheer. Then it will all be documented, put on a shelf, collect dust and eventually be forgotten.
First and foremost Dickie was a Bluesman, a champion of the Blues and a Knight of the Blues Table who just happened to worship at the Temple of the Loud. He once was asked at an interview I was at with him how he felt about working with a heavy metal guitarist and he sort of chuckled and said “ Duck? Duck is just a blues guitarist in disguise.” and in that instance he taught me more about myself than even I knew and profoundly changed the way I thought about myself, no easy feat me being a stubborn Scotsman. There are so many stories I could tell you about my adventures with Dickie and someday we’ll sit down and drink a Scotch and I will tell all (if I can remember) but some things are just for me like the memories of first Love, your first born child being laid in your arms, and the passing of those you loved, those feelings are private and sacred and mine alone so I leave you with this.
Dickie is waiting for us and when we get there he will turn and face God and say
WE’RE BLUE CHEER AND THIS IS WHAT WE DO! And launch into Babylon. (Hopefully God will provide the gear and lots of it!)
Andrew “Duck” MacDonald

Sweet, Duck....Sweetly put.

I had the pleasure of meeting Dickie, Paul and you when Blue Cheer played a place in Burbank, Illinois called Champs several years back. It was kind of a Kharmic thing...I tracked you guys down on myspace, saw that Iyou had tour dates and of all things(!) playing at the end of my block (at Champs) a few days later....I had to go!!! You guys just blistered my face with that wall of sound of metal, blues rock. I was so impressed jow how pure of a sound it was. unlike any other band out there  Of course, I met you guys, took pictures and had you sign my albums.

I went home that night high on Blue Cheer...I also went home that night thinking what a love man Dickie was...God Bless Dickie for having been and the body of work he let behind.

Back in 1967 i believe it was i was about 14 or 15.I remember the song "Summertime blues" playin on the am radio by Blue cheer.I got the album and it was so cool with its change of silver shiny reflective cover which launchd the band members faces back and forth from one shiny state to another. The lp was lifted in spots so you could actually feel the changes in the words and things on the cover.I actually took that lp to high school and carried it around with me all day one day because i thought it was so cool.It sure was and it sure still is because i still have that album today even though its got some scotch tape holding its edges together.I played that album through the years and i never gave it up or lent it or lost it even when i had to sell most of my record collection once when i was broke. The music of "Vincebus Eruptum" was amazingly set in the right time and place in the 60s trip.It was a stand out album because no band had ever done what Blue cheer did,...blast the roof off. I went on to follow Blue cheer in their other musical changes and i really like "New and improved "with randy holden but sad to say theres been some sad trips ive heard about holdens idea of he is the real blue cheer when hes NOT but for what one side of "New and improved" he played on it is some nice music even so. Prior to that lp was the second Blue cheer lp with some real hard acid rock and it had a fold out cover with the band *whalen away (*whalen for you paul!) Anyways there was music there to strip your head off if you didnt have it in place to begin with.Through the years theres been more lps and some good and some so so but it was always listenable after all it was Blue Cheer and if it was by Blue Cheer I bought it.So what ever road the band took and what ever members passed through it was interesting to say the least. These last years i got into "what ever doesnt kill you" and the other one "high lights and low lives". And back into a block of time i momentarily forgot was "The beast is back".And theres others. The thing is Blue cheer is it was up and it was down and it was on hiatus and it was up and it was down and it was On hiatus again. However it was always Blue cheer and so i always got my fix of Loud through life along with my ups n downs and female personel changes as well as changes in fortunes too.Dickie peterson had a very special growly and hard edge voice and sang a song with an edge to it.In the later incarnation of blue cheer the Duck mcdonald played very well and those chords and lead hits sustaining could be heard loud and clear and left me filled with oz like moments.Paul whaley always kicked ass on drums!!!!! and in some Blue Cheer videos its so cool to wathc Whaley drumming as he got s style thats got its own special hits in the timing. The later years of Blue cheer gained some stability and some consistency and became a staple and its so neat they could tour and be heard by so many fans again old and anew.God bless you Blue cheer members still with us Duck and Paul and God bless all of the fans of Blue cheer. Its a sad time right now for sure. However on a happeir note we know that Dickie Peterson is in a better place as we all will be someday  and although he will be sorely missed he is loved and not going to be forgotten anytime soon. Blue cheers music will live on."Rest in Peace Dickie Peterson bassist and rocker extraordinaire of the mind blowing louder then God blast the roof off 60s iconic Blue Cheer"!

I am grateful for having had this special friendship with the man, I am grateful you are still around! Still an ocean in between, but we all will sit down some time soon and bring our stories with Dickie to the table. This is the longest piece of writing I have seen from you in 20 years. Thank god you laid it down!

I like to picture Dickie jammin' now on some huge-ass kozmic stacks the size of a galaxy, like on a super-long, 'live version' of something that doesn't ever really have to end...

Wow thats a great piece man its a nice tribute. I was fortunate to see ya'll when you played Tallahassee a couple of years ago, I was in that awe that I was there watching such rock legends in a small venue. And ya'll were very cool and gracious meeting with the fans afterwards, actually I think ya'll were some of the coolest rocks stars I've ever met. I'm really wanted to see ya'll again but it wasn't meant to be, wish ya'll the best!!

The loss of Dickie makes me almost want to cry. I'm from Detroit.  The band I'm in in is heavy as fuck and the heaviness in our band (which I brought the heaviness to the table here) is all owed to Dickie! We may not sound like Blue Cheer (and may have taken more from the MC5 cause we're from Lincoln Park, MI like they are) but they (Blue Cheer) are in our roots as much as Dickie Peterson is in our soul. We will forever miss you and everything we do from here on out, we will try to have a little bit of you in it all the way!

Thank you for your words and thoughts, Duck. I..m still shocked from Dickie's passing. I hope the R'n'R-world will still be able to hear some of you..re playing. After witnessing Blue Cheer during the last tour of Germany I fell in love with your feeling when playing guitar and can only hope to see you perform again some time. Wouldn..t Bobby Liebling be the right guy to sing "parchment farm" and the like in the future?

Duck , Thank you for sharing your thoughts. My favorite story is still the one about how you and Dickie met , but I'm loving the story about how you and he will meet again. For you , and Paul , and all those closest to him , he'll always be with you. As life goes on , though I know it's hard , he'll still be looking out for you , and it will give you comfort , and cause to smile. Don't worry about the gear. God's amp goes to "12". The shows were great , the attitude was one of caring and no pretension. You were everything a band should be. I trust some people were taking notes.

Be well , Remember we're all here for you. Love , John.

After reading the eulogy and all of the comments, I feel like I'm in very good company.  Thanks for sharing the eulogy, and the music of Blue Cheer will live on forever, as will Dickie's spirit.  I only got to see y'all once at the Middle East in Cambridge, MA, and it was purely unreal.  I, like everyone else here, was stunned around 14 by Vincebus Eruptum (and that was already the mid-80's), and never imagined I'd get to experience it live.  RIP Dickie - we'll keep it loud for you!

MULTIPERSONALITY GENTLEMAN

growing up, it seemed all my dad lived for was shaking the walls with a band said to be "louder than God". and i can remember that wild wah just rushing through our spirits like a phoenix making way through a forgotten forest. i later grew with these echoes in my mind and promised one day to hit the stage with my bass in hand and say "we are..." and the lights would blast in all directions as that familiar wah sound openned the ears of all who were deaf to REAL metal. "relax your mind....." then they'd share the electric explosion i've always known. God bless our beloved dickie peterson. Blue Cheer will always be a key part of my inspiration.....in music and in life.
