Following a two and a half year battle with MDS and then leukemia, Michael passed away. A memorial service is now being planned and details regarding the same will be posted here this coming Wednesday or Thursday. In lieu of flowers, we ask that donations be made to The Marrow Foundation's TIME IS OF THE ESSENCE FUND. Many lives have been saved as a result of those who joined the National Marrow Donor Program at donor drives on behalf of Michael---and
who were perfectly matching donors for others in need. There is much work to do, and we ask you to please join us in this effort. Thank you for all of your support.

Thanks for posting this Ben.  I assumed Mr. Brecker had more important things on his mind, like getting better, so I assumed also that it was either a fan or member of  his management or family.  The point is it doesn't matter.  The big thing is there is a forum for his great music.  You've done a great job with the site and you should commended.  I would like to see the occasional song change though.  Try putting some cuts off of "Tales from the Hudson" which is quite possibly Michael's best solo effort.

Peace, Love and Happiness,
Greg

Dear Mike, you gave us so much & made us musicians. Your music brought us to a new level. I know so many of your solos by heart, even not being a sax player. We miss you so much. May Heaven be as beautiful & peaceful as it should be for you, now.
Biggest love from downthere !

Michael was an enormous influence on so many of us. His legacy and the contributions to music spread far and wide! I remember seeing him at 7th avenue south in NYC on many occasions and walking out feeling completely intoxicated by the power of his voice. These gigs inspired me so completely and caused me to explore my own music with focus and dedication. I will be forever graetful and wish Michael and his family blessings! He will be missed and his music will keep him vitally alive for all time! Thank you Michael..peace to you on your journey.

with love and respect,

Robert

Dear Michael

You will never know how much you and your playing meant to musos everywhere. I personally listened to you every day for 17 years, and every single note took my breath away.
In the words of the song.... There will never be another you.

God rest your soul.

This is very sad news indeed. I've seen Michael play many, many times over the years and my admiration for him as a musician only grew. His versatility continued to amaze me. Watching him with Paul Simon one year and with his incredible quartet the next, just to name an example, was a great experience. How very sad that no adequate help could be given for his recovery. Apparently he finished a new recording just before he passed away. A fitting end to an era.

My sincere condolences to the Brecker family. I listened to Michael's playing in awe on Joni Mitchell's albums over and over and will always remember his sound that was different and so uniquely beautiful. Have since been able to distinguish Michael's sound on other recordings and it always awakens my spirit to that feeling of intense musical magic that cannot even be adequately described with words. Was so sad to hear of his passing and will never forget what he gave us musically and will forever be grateful for his sound. Sincerely, Elizabeth Lonbro, Kingston, Ontario, Canada

I had a wonderful relationship with Mike over many years, going back to 1970 or so. I loved him from very early on and so enjoyed him and his music. He contributed so many wonderful moments to my music and many fans still comment on his solos on my albums. I want to say that Mike was a lovely friend, and one of the most gentle spirits I've ever met. I send my love out to Randy, and Mike's wife and entire family, including all the people he ever touched.

Love to all,
Garland Jeffreys

My prayers included Michael and his family during his battle. I was fortunate enough to hear the New Directions group in Kansas City in March of 2004. An experience I will never forget. The Pilgrimage CD now sets an even higher plateau for us to climb. But that is the whole point, isn't it. Keep climbing, keep trying, keep fighting, never quit. Thanks Michael, you will continue to inspire musicians through out the essence of time.

It is saddening to think that I have been a Brecker Bro's fan for so long and to not have already had you as a freind. Now only to find you and to learn that Michael has passed. My condolences to the family and fans and I truly appreciate you for this page. All is fair in love and war but when it comes to JAZZ the only thing that is fair is the perpetual inspiration that comes from the ONE spirit we all share. The collection of our souls cannot compare to gifts of our blessing and the continuance of OUR art is all we have to hope for. Thanks MICHAEL for your generous contribution. May it be to those yet to come what it has been to those of us that lived it WITH YOU.
PEACE and LOVE for ETERNITY
