The Joker is a fictional character that appears in comic books published by DC Comics. Created by Bill Finger, Bob Kane and Jerry Robinson, the character first appeared in Batman 1 (Spring 1940). The arch-enemy of the superhero Batman, the Joker is a master criminal whose characterization has varied from a violent and murderous sociopath, causing chaos and committing crimes for his own amusement, to a goofy and virtually harmless trickster-thief.

He has been potrayed in three seperate generations on film and television.  Each portrayal has been drastically different... yet all considered good.  So here's the question to all the Gotham fans..... who do you love?

Leave a comment explaining your choice a bit if you choose as well as your thoughts about the Batman movies (and TV series) as well.  Also.... who shoulfd be the villain(s) in the next movie?

So pretty much, heath Killed the role that he played (the joker) so bad that no one can ever act ever again. He played the part so well.

I just saw this movie last week[end] and I gotta say Heath Ledger was "The Man" and the BEST Joker even beating out Mr. Jack Nick-ol-son ... As I was xplainin' 2 my wife The Joker is INSANE and a Lunatic ... Needless 2 say Batman is my 2nd favorite Superhero from the Marvel Comics genre ...

Good Blog HQ ...

I guess Jack as always been the best for me, I find jack to be a great actor no matter what role he plays...I didn't get to see the Dark Knight yet and from what I know Ledger did a excellent job playing the Joker and words out that he should get an Oscar...as for who should be the next villain...Morris Day...lol!!!

Hmmmmm...

Don't know if I can count your vote in full. If yoou haven't seen The Dark Knight yet.. its hard to vote fairly.

Go see the movie... its very very good and you just may come out with a different opinion.

I'll say it was a hard choice for me as I have loved all three Jokers at one point or another.

But smiling Jack got the edge with me over Ledger by a slim margin. I hesitated to vote for Ledger because I didn't want to seen caught up in the hype. but that isn't the reason I voted for Jack.

Being an fan of DC comics... I voted for the Joker who most closely portrayed him as he is represented in the comics. Jack's version actually came the closest.

As far as villains for the next movie... I guarantee that one will be Catwoman / Selena Kyle and the other almost has to be The Riddler.

hmm this is a tough one. Cesar Romero made a big impression as a chaotic clown and he was always great when he appeared on the show. But he didn't inspire fear the way Joker does in the comics. Jack did, and you have a point there that his Joker personality is close to the comic book version. But I thought the whole "you made me? But I made you first" subplot took away from his acting. Also I felt that Jack was relishing the artistic criminal side of Joker more than the sheer madness of the character. I didn't get the sense of unpredictability from him as much as I wanted it. He hated Batman for having Vicki Vale as a girlfriend if I remember correctly.

That's why I like Heath Ledgers version best.. It didn't even feel like it was an actor playing a character, it was like the character came to life, and he was reallllly scary doing it!

Ok, gotta tell you that I was intro'd to Marvel and Marvel "world" first. My son is a HARDCORE Spidey fan and for only being four, he really seemed to show an interest in comics at not only a very early age, but to an extreme. He is already into computers and knows google from me, so we googled/educated ourselves bout the Marvel characters this way. Then one day he asked me,"MOM, if I like Marvel, does that mean I cant like Batman then?? Cause Batman is DC Comics." (Of course, I didnt know the difference ...LOL) And my hubby interjects with,"Son, you can like them all! DC AND MARVEL!" So The Dark Knight comes out and against my maternal instincts/parenting morals...I do the UNTHINKABLE. I allow my hubby to take the boy. (I know, too much violence and kinda dark for a child this age) He seemed totally unphased by it all, knew it was just "acting" and it has set off somethin inside him...he is now into BATMAN and looooooooooves The Joker. In his words,"The Joker is super freaky ma, and I know he is a "bad" guy but come on! Ya have to like him!" My newest dilemma, he wants to be JOKER for Halloween. Encourage or discourage that? lol Will people view me as a horrible parent letting a 4 yr old portray an EVIL VILLIAN? It's so NOT a DISNEY, happy, character...lol
(And in my opinion...HEATH LEDGER took Joker to new heights. I wouldnt want to follow his lead....them are some big shoes to fill, no?)
