I've been having a conversation with a Clinton supporter here on Myspace and I got a message yesterday. Understandably, this person was in a celebratory mood, and who am I to deny anyone a good time, but I had to get this off of my chest. I thought I would post it here because I think there are some of us in the Obama camp who need to be reminded why we are who we are and perhaps get back to the truth. I've pasted together a couple of messages together here and made a couple of edits, but this is 95% of what I had to say:


I wonder what there is for her campaign to celebrate. That fear beat hope today? That lies trump truth?

In the end we are still ahead in the delegate count. She needed to win these states by 60% or more. 2 weeks ago she was ahead by as much as 20 points in both Ohio and Texas.

We still believe you win elections by being positive. If she wants to win by taking this to the gutter, she can have it, but thats not what we think our party should be about. We would rather he lost and stayed above the fray than win by meeting her where she is. Its also about how you win and what you believe in and we think that becomes more clear as the days pass. If she wins, she wins by scaring the country and not lifting it up.

I need to believe that we all lose when it goes negative. But I still believe we will win in the end, and then all of us win, the whole country.

This isn't "polly anna" stuff. This is what we need. Do you think its an accident that people are cynical about the political process? Do you think its an accident that people don't think that nothing ever changes? Why do you think that is? Its because politics and politicians continue to play on the fears of the electorate. Its because they are told over and over that its the only way things will ever be.

This is exactly the attitude that will tear this country apart. This is a struggle for a definition of what we believe in. Do we believe in a politics that has to be fought in the mud, in which we tear eachother apart? If that is who we believe we are than what is the point of political parties? If we are going to fight the dirty politics of Karl Rove than why don't we just call ourselves Republicans? I'm exhausted of believing that this country isn't better than this kind of politics. Here we have someone who is appealing to the, as Abraham Lincoln put it, "the better angels of our nature" and she mocks him and laughs at it. Is that the kind of "leadership" we want? When we stop being enemies to eachother, maybe, just maybe, we can actually work together and get the real work done. He is playing to win, but he's playing with his head held high, so that in the end, we can all win.

Maybe the press has given him a "free ride" because there is nothing to ride him on. Have you ever thought of that? So, now she has whined about it and they have made mountains out of mole hills to appease her.

And as far as being outspent 2 to 1 she came into this campaign with an incredible amount of name recognition and he's had to outspend her in order to introduce himself to an electorate that didn't know who he was. If you remember she was supposed to have this locked up by February 5th based on that alone.

And as far as his waiting for more experience, it reminds me of a question James Baldwin asked of the America people during the civil rights movement, "How long am I supposed to wait for your progress?"

We are the change we have been waiting for.

I too am finding myself having to 'do battle' with ardent Hillaristas today. They just don't get it. It's all about victory and smashing Obama/McCain and her personal ascendancy. Never mind the country.

For this Ohioan, last night was disappointing but not surprising. The thing to remember about Ohio is that is constitutes two relatively progressive cities--Cleveland and Columbus--juxtaposed against a vast swath of ignoramusville. We tried to overcome that, but it was not to be.

Very Good Wilson!! I applaud you... Listen people.. did we get down when Obama lost California and New York? He kept fighting for a just cause..A cause that I believe in. We may be down due to Texas and Ohio and Rhode Island, but as you Wilson point out. Obama is still in the lead. We just can not let our guard down. When she did her what I call "Holier then thy" speech it was a huge turn off for me. Let's stick to the issues Hillary! If you want to mock someone then mock the man who got us in this war we are still in after all these years where the WMD never was found. The Democratic party must work as a team just like most of do at work so things run smoothly. If the party itself can not do that, then we might as well just hand it right over to McCain. Thank you Wilson for standing up for what you believe in and posting this blog. Together we can do this.. 1+1+1+1+1+1+1+1+1+1+1+1+1+1+1+1+1+1+1+1+1.....all of us standing up for the same cause. remember as we all say "Yes We Can" and in the end we can say "Yes we Won"!

Very well said, but dont give up hope. This isnt over yet... Just a few days ago she was beyond desperate. Barack didnt get to where he is by being dumb; he has a plan and we will have a clear undersatanding of it in a few days. Keep the support the math is in Baracks favor not billary

This truly is "silly politics." Yes, change has been used as rhetoric by many candidate hopefuls, but how many of them have actually brought about change? Obama has spearheaded one of the most ingenious campaigns that this country has ever seen. He has single-handedly CHANGED the game of campaigning. He has removed the need and influence of lobbyists. He has gained momentum without the support of special interests. He has put the political wheel back into the hands of the people. Why do you Hillarians ignore this monumental and unprecedented accomplishment? Are you all daft? If you're not able to see how this is a clear and direct indication of what this man means by CHANGE, then you have blinders on.

Just because some people don't support the candidate you support, I really don't feel a need to call them daft. This is a competion, a race. Some Democrats support Hillary, some support Obama, that is why the race is so close now. I support Hillary, but if she is not nominated I will vote for Obama, of course. And no, I am not daft, I don't have blinders on. I just do not support the same candidate as you do, and this is a democracy, and I do have a choice to give my support to whichever candidate I feel will best fit the next commander in chief position.

I think when people get involved in the process it is good. Politics is my life Blood and my passion. I am a Liberal, and support neither candidate, however in the coming weeks I hope people on both sides realize these are two great people who both have strenghts and weaknesses. No matter what you may think, there are a lot of people who love Sen. Clinton. They may not be as vocal, but they are there. This is a close race, and both sides will raise issues. Obama seems to inspire peeople, and that is a very good thing. But there are real problems in America, and WE CAN to endure 4 more years of the GOP. In the end the "Democrats" are going to have to pick some ne who can win in the Mid-West, a difficult task for a woman, or a Black man. I love your passion and energy, but there are very few differences between these two people, who BOTH represent change. That is why they are so close. Make no mistake, HRC can not beat his delegate lead, and HE CAN Not Get enough delegates to win unless she drops out, so we keep going. The thing is, having a choice in itself is change. For the First time in a long time, America is paying attention. Not the Harvard, Yale and Cornell educated, but everyone, and if this interest contintues, not just for a President (You need a Senate and a Congress to go with HIM) CHANGE WILL Happen. Its not about HIM OR HER, its about you, and your country asking questions and demanding answers from everyone that has the Honor to represent you. I love your post, and in the coming weeks I hope things work out for the best, but yesterday did belong to HRC. Politics is about perception...The perception is that Obama, while ahead in the delegate count, cannot win the big states and is not ready to be on stage alone. During Black History Month, OBAMA made History, and now, during Women's History Month, Clinton's keeping Her-Story ALIVE. Come November, I hope they both work together (not on the same ticket) To make American History.

Thank you, Wilson, I really need this. I am in total agreement with you and find myself looking for ways to get my message out everyday because Hillary is really trying to make this a mud slinging war. It is very clear to me that she has absolutely no interest in the welfare of the people. It is so very important for all of us to speak up, speak out, and support the change that Obama will bring to our country. I am so troubled that people aren't listening to our international neighbors when they say they want to have dialoque, they want to work with people of color, and there is a browning of america! There is a call for inclusion and collaboration. Obama supporters realize that the strength of our country is in civility, diversity, working together, and lifting each other. It is time for healing. Thank you, Wilson, I am encouraged and soothed by your words.

Yep. She'll do or say anything to get elected. I guess honesty and self-respect don't count for much anymore. It's still going to come down to the superdelegates and who they feel will be more electable in the fall. And that person is Barack Obama. Thanks Wilson.

Its unfortunate that I'm so late responding to this blog, but haven't been online much lately. In any case, let me first agree with you that Obama is truly a sense of hope, change, and new direction in our country. The statement that Hillary had a the "name recognition", not denying that she has assisted in making changes as a Senator, however, her name recognition, to be BRUTALLY HONEST, is from having a infidel as a husband. If I did not follow politics at all, the only memory of Hilliary I would have is she was Bill's wife who stuck with him through his infidelity. That's all - oh and maybe that she was because a Senator after that fiasco.


My point is simply this... In the condition our country is in, the last thing I would want is an electorate that increases the significance of their past duties, lies about dodging bullets, fights a political race with punches under the belt to obtain political safety or increase, or one who I cannot trust or believe in making good decision for me as an American. That is why ALL OF US are in our current depleting situation in this country. We have a leader that LIES, CHEATS, STEAL, CORRUPTS, and "DICTATES" instead of speaking as our combined voice of reason to other countries and even our own political processes. We need a President that will be HONEST, and DILIGENT in the efforts to get our country and economy back on track.
