Hi folks,
From time to time, I get emails asking what its like to be a journalist/newsreader on local radio......welll I decided to write a bit about my working day, to give you and insighte.
So here goes!.........
6am - A busy start to my day, I find out a boy has gone missing in Lewes, this is major news for us as its right in our news patch. Find out all the details I can and write it up ready for the 6:30 headlines. I constantly speak to emergency services and check news wires for breaking news, this is the busy time of the day, and I've only been awake 20minutes.
7am - We are running with the missing boy followed by Madeline McCann in Portugual. There's also a story about Mid Wives which is very target for our audience.
7:15am - Do a chat with Chris breakfast presenter about me getting locked in the toilet because the door handle broke off.
7:30am - Headlines, we have more news on missing boy.
8am - As more listeners wake up, Sussex Police tell us they will have more information on missing boy later in the day. I start to chase up interviews about ADHD in adults.
9am - The news is moving fast this morning, we get word that the family of a missing woman in East Sussex are relaunching an appeal to find her.
10am - I'm writing up the afternoon news, ready for the news reader later in the day.
1050am - Sussex police say the missing boy from Lewes has been found, this changes the focus of the bulletin for 11am, and so I rewrite the story.
12pm - Getting the lunchtime news ready it's a 15 minute news show which goes out at 1pm, including sport and weather.
12:55 - Load the show up and ready to role, checking that the mic works as I'm broadcasting from a different studio.
1pm - Lunchtime news goes live, and away we go.
1:30pm - I pack my bags and head for home, all my work done for the day.
