Zounds, Fellow Films Fans!
It's a brisk and breezy night here in South Central Kansas and the cat just dragged me in from an excellent party at Rock Island Studio. Naked City knows how to throw a bash. I'm tipsy on Ripcords, (ask our friends from Heavy Weather), have thoroughly enjoyed reentacting the "nest egg" scene from "Lost in America" with Denny Tedesco and am praying I've not been as obnoxious as I'm certain I've been.
Opening night was fan-damn-tastic. We sold out two theaters with the documentary inspired by Thomas Franks' "What's the Matter with Kansas?" The film was cool, but my favorite part was the Q&A after. It's always interesting to hear what motivates the filmmakers' choices, and besides, let's face it, Kansas is made up of a diverse population, and people who aren't from here aren't always aware of that. Lively conversation continued at the soiree until the last Ripcord was downed. It was a Stubbornly Independent way to kick off the 2008 festival!
On deck for Friday:
