3 MINUTES....
3 minutes is not a long time. Time enough for a quick phone call or a bit of small talk. For a comedian 3 minutes can go by in the blink of an eye...or last a life time... I arrived for my set at Acme Comedy Company still unsure of the material I would do. I have plenty of material, and was well prepared, and had my mind right ( thank you, chronic!) but I only had 3 minutes. Should i go rapid fire and just spit out one liners to keep the crowd (who wasn't as drunk as i would have liked) laughing or build up to one big gut buster/ Awww.... decisions! I joked around with the host Ms. Shannen (from B96) for a little while before showtime. I was going on second so I wouldn't have much time to decide. After 20 (long!!!) minutes of listening to the other acts it was my turn... As I walked out onto the stage I could hear the sound of a few familiar voices and the rumblings of an anxious crowd. As i started my set my first joke drew a few moans. At least they didnt boo me. But then i got there attention and it was on! Each joke drew louder and louder applause and i was on a roll. i was actually over whelmed with the loudness of the ovations, the look of amusement on the crowds faces. Everyone was laughing; The wiat staff as well as the other comedians. It was then that i realized that I had the power to entertain people, to make them laugh at life, and that i could continue to do this as long as i wanted. It was then that i noticed the blinking red light. My 3 minutes were over.
