First The Super Bowl, Then The White House...

Until 61 years ago, there were no Black players (Kenny Washington) in the NFL...The next year Jackie Robinson broke the color barrier in baseball.

Until 18 years ago there had been no Black head coaches in the modern Era of the NFL (Art Shell)...

Until 4 years ago there had never been a playoff game coached by 2 Black coaches (Herman Edwards' New York Jets defeated Tony Dungy's Indianapolis )...

Until 18 hours ago..there had been no Black head coach who had earned the right to coach in the Super Bowl....now there are 2.

How fitting that the the world's most watched event, the Super Bowl, will showcase the coaching prowess of two Black coaches, Lovie Smith and Tony Dungy, during Black History Month.

Two Black men that embody leadership, intelligence, and the ability to make good decisions. They will show poise, command respect, and motivate the people around them to give their all in pursuit of a common goal.

In 2008 another Black man with those same qualities will try to become the first Black man to accomplish a historic first - become President. His name is Barack Obama. I know America loves it's sports, and with Dungy and Lovie in the limelight, showing a different Black man than the white tee-shirt wearing hip-hop image that corporate America exploits for millions of dollars, the public gets to see Black men who are in a position of power and could be viewed as role models, not because of their income or baller status, but because of the men they are.

Bring the hardware home Lovie. Congratulations Tony. Good luck in 2008 Barack.
