Hello ,
This is Joshua Coppings with the Buffalo State Students for Peace just trying to get back to you better late than never.
On March 17th, 2005 students at BuffState organized a
24 hour Vigil to carry the BuffState and Buffalo Peace Community into M19 actions.
Peace events began 12:15-1:30pm during the traditional Thursday break from classes where approximately 300 students and community memmbers gathered to view a staged die-in by members of BuffState Students for Peace all wearing shirts which read, "How many lives will it take? How many more are at stake?"
Simultaneously passers by were able to interact in the reading aloud names of both US soldiers along with Iraqi civilians who had been killed in Iraq.
This reading also included a moving letter from a Buffalo State transfer student from Italy who was a close friend of Nicola Calipari who was recently killed protecting an Italian journalist who had been held hostage.
At 7pm a group of nearly 30 people braved the chilling temperatures to commence a candle-light ceremony with the lighting of candles and a continuation of a reading of names of those who had been taken during the past 2 year period.
Through the night many students and community members brought and shared hot coffee, food and emotions regarding the current political issues. As many as 32 people kept candles lit and spirits warmed thru until 1:30pm Friday March 18th.
At 2pm Saturday March 19th Buffalo area veterans, family members and longtime peace activists gathered in Lafayette Square in downtown Buffalo for a one hour rally to declare "No More Victims" as a list of all those US soldiers who have been lost from NY state were read by members of the Western NY Peace Center and community representatives.
CURRENTLY student from BuffState Students for Peace are organizing a "HUNGER STRIKE" which asks students, faculty and members of the community to fast for designated days leading into several events related to Peace and the War on Iraq that will take place in the first weeks of April 2005.
A quick calender of these events follows along with contact information and a link to online source of Students for Peace information.
Show your support thru participation in the hunger strike; take at least 1 day to FAST along side others who consider this 2yrs of killings to be too many in the cost of lives and billions of dollars. ===============================================
