Friends,
Once upon a time, it was enough to be on Myspace if you wanted to promote your music. You'd send out a bulletin and many of your numerous friends would reply, come to the shows, etc... but sadly, the world is changing (AGAIN!).
I noticed a while back that many people left Myspace when Facebook became popular. I was dragged kicking and screaming to join Facebook because as a musician I really wanted to keep in touch with the people who left Myspace! However Facebook as you know has its limitations if you are a BAND (the lack of a music player for one!). Anyway, I quickly maxed out on my Facebook page. I now have 5,000 friends and can't add anyone else, anyway.
In any case recently, many have left Facebook in favor of Twitter. The point is simple... when it comes to social networking sites, people will come and go. There will be ones certain people love that are hated by others. As a band or a musician, you just can't rely on these sites anymore to be the whole equation.
Hence, after letting it languish for a couple of years (since I started smoking the Myspace Coolaid... Oh, you get the picture!) I've decided to revive my E-list.
I used to collect email addresses at shows and on
Voltaire.net and I used to send out a monthly newsletter to people who wished to stay in contact with me, wished to know when I was playing in their town, etc...
When Myspace came along and made all of that so easy to do from here, I got lazy.
Well, I can't afford to be lazy anymore! I am starting to see my old friends and fans scattering to the four winds based on nothing more than a desire or lack of desire to be on one social networking site versus another.
So.... I will keep sending out the occasional bulletin here and on Facebook. But all of the truly important information will be sent out in a monthly E-newsletter to the people on my E-list. The people who REALLY care!
If you are not on it, and wish to stay in contact with me, PLEASE SIGN UP NOW!!!!
There are two ways to do it.
1) Go to
www.deadybear.net and click on "Join the Email list" at the bottom of the home page. I am putting DEADY in charge of my list and the newsletters will come from that website.
2) Or, you can still go to
www.voltaire.net. Hit CONTACT and follow the directions on that page.
Either way, it is time for me to cut out the middle man. From now on, it's going to be more about YOU AND ME! And less about being mutual friends of Tom's
Sincerely,
Voltaire
