Blind Pig Records has announced two additions to its "Vinyl Masters Series" with the release of audiophile LPs by Chicago blues pioneer Jimmy Rogers and highly influential icon George "Harmonica" Smith.   Both titles are now available!

Jimmy Rogers  "Feelin' Good"

Jimmy Rogers was one of the very originators and stylists of the unmistakeable raw-edged, electric sound of postwar Chicago blues.  He was a distinguished and important member of the Muddy Waters Band that paved the way for rock 'n' roll as we know it.  Most of the tracks on Feelin' Good were recorded in 1984 with Rod Piazza's band, featuring Piazza on harmonica and Junior Watson on guitar.  The LP is highlighted by two rare and previously unreleased tracks that were produced by harmonica player Bob Corritore and recorded in Phoenix, Arizona in 1992.

George "Harmonica" Smith
"Now You Can Talk About Me"

George "Harmonica" Smith is the father of the West Coast blues harp style and one of the most compelling blues singers of his generation.   His sound was highly influential on a younger group of players such as Rod Piazza, Charlie Musselwhite, and Kim Wilson.

When he leaned back and started blowing the blues, Smith created some of the most exciting music in blues history.  His hard-driven, metallic-edged diatonic playing, with its frequent use of tongue-blocked octaves and a pulsing vibrato, seemed to emanate from the pit of his stomach.    The LP features five tracks that were  recorded in Los Angeles and originally released as singles in the early 1960's.  The remaining selections were produced by Rod Piazza and recorded in 1982 in Watts, California, featuring Piazza's band, the Mighty Flyers, and guitarist Junior Watson.

These, and all the LPs in the Vinyl Master Series, are re-mastered, 180 gram vinyl, limited edition, audiophile quality recordings.  They were pressed at Record Technologies, Inc.

I met George not too long before he passed... I know that he is smiling down on The Pig for the re-issue of these cuts.  Kudos to you for thinking about the Greats, like George.
