WOW! I can't believe the response I am getting from my piano music!! Thank you for commenting on it!

I have received many requests from music lovers to hear some of my music. The only things I had ready to upload and share were a few of my piano songs. So, I threw up a couple and BLAMMO! People like them! I don't believe it!

Because of this, people have been asking a lot of questions about my songs. So.... Here are the questions and the answers (if you care) lol.

1. Is that REALLY you playing?
- Yes that is me playing on my piano.

2. Did you write those songs?
- Yes, I wrote all of the songs that are up on my myspace music site.

3. Do you have more?
- Heck yeah. I have many more songs that I am working on recording.

4. Are there lyrics?
- Surprisingly, I have received this question more about "Sanctuary" than any other song.  There are no lyrics to any of my piano music.  I just try to go for emotion.  Certain emotions just can't be expressed in words.  I try to write music for those feelings.  I hope that the listener can exerience that same emotion, yet at the same time have them interepret it in their own way.  Then I give a short title that offers the listener a hint about what that emotion is.  If I put lyrics to the songs then I would force the listener to "see it my way" and that is not my goal.  Poetry should never need an explaination.

5. Can I get the sheet music?
- Heh, I would love to share the sheet music but it is all in my head.  There is no sheet music, but I am working on it.

6. Do you have a CD and when will it be out?
- I am working on perfecting the songs and recording them in my home in Rhode Island.  I am working as hard as I can on it but, unfortunately, my job forces me to spend many a day on the road and it is very hard to focus on music when you don't have your instruments nearby.

7. When did you start playing?/Did you take lessons?
- I have not taken lessons on the piano. I had a lot of free time when I was 13/14 and there was a piano in the house. So, I started figuring out how to play songs by ear. I used to play for hours and hours every day. Then I just started writing my own stuff. Before I knew it I had enough for an album, but didn't have the ability to make one. Now I do... so I will.

8. Did you write them down or are they just in your head?
- I keep them all in my head, which is kind of scary. If anything happens to me, the songs die too. Hence why I am trying to record them.

9. What inspires you?
- Primarily the feeling I get from being home with my family. (After all, that is where my piano is, lol) Spending time with them and watching us all grow and learn are usually the themes of my songs. I also gain inspiration from the natural beauty of the four seasons.

Well, there you go! Thanks for the interest and all of the compliments. That gives me the strength and confidence to actually try and get an album out there to share.

Once again... THANK YOU for your support and showing interest in the "Grant" beyond the show.

You have a good sized fan base Grant, and we are all waiting for your CD to drop!

I bet that you probably already know about this, but I am goin' to throw it out there anyway!(hehehe) There is a program that we used at college, which would record what you played and spit written sheet music of it out of the printer...I do not know the name of the program...but I do know that you run the keyboard through the computer...and no more talk about dieing! THAT is to scary for us!

I never knew that there was this side of you. I am really impressed and love you even more! ^_^ I mean as only a fan can of course.

Your music is absolutely breathtaking. Since I have found it, I love to listen to it while I write. You keep me inspired to write and to continue the practice of my own piano playing. I was schooled as a child to play but could unfortunately never finish my lessons. Perhaps I should teach myself as you have. I have already begun to try some ragtime pieces by Scott Joplin and in time, perhaps have them perfected. Thank you Grant!

I never had piano lessons in my life, but for some reason when I was younger, I still thought that I could play. So I would sit with a dinky little tape recorder and record my crappy playing for my mom as Christmas presents. I don't think she ever really listened to them.. because I really wasn't that good. I just think that it is amazing that someone coould learn to play so well, never having had a single lesson.

Well, you're just multi-talented!:)  Being a piano teacher though (don't you think you should learn to read notes?) LOL I started out playing by ear and still do when I have the time, I'm just not very good at it.  PS What show are you on?  Just kidding.......it's my favorite.  I even watch the re-runs.

Hearing your music is awesome..... and I thank you for sharing it with all of us. It's obvious that there are so many others that feel the same.

More wonderful, is reading this personal info. I love to learn about people.... what they're about, where they come from, and what inspires them. This blog post very much satisfied some of my curiosity about you! I too, am very much looking forward to seeing a cd being out there to purchase of your amazing work!

Playing for & from emotions is truly one of the best ways to be YOU. It's a great way of expressing yourself, through your beautiful talent... and also a way to "escape" at times, I'm sure, as well. Listening to these songs, the emotions are honestly felt... and at the same time, it's great music to sit back and "escape", for me too.

Thanks so very much again, for sharing... I look forward to hearing more!

I really didn't know you played piano, Grant...that's awsome.  So do I, but I've been taking lessons for years, I can't believe you taught yourself that well.  I make my own songs, too. =)  Anyways, I really enjoy listening and when you make that album I'll buy it for sure, your pieces are really beautiful.

Oh yeah, one more thing...you might remember me from somewhere...

DragonCon or Penn State, mmhmmm!  (Crazy people from Ohio that love you.)  Hahaha, keep up the great work!

Hmmmm....I wonder if some wonderful machine exists that will put down what it hears onto paper, as a way to preserve your music for all time.  It's great that you are recording now to keep it alive in the world, and it would be fabulous to keep it in writing...When I see music on paper, it is poetry to me....I can hear it by looking at it, in the way it was intended by the composer....I love Mendelssohn, Songs Without Words, because music is meant to be communicated on its own, and words can be good sometimes, but they are not necessary to the message of the music itself....your playing of the piano does this, and I appreciate you.

I know it's kinda been awhile since this blog was first introduced, but I just wanted to let you know that your music means more to a lot of people otherthan something that's pleasing to hear.

I'm a musican and been playing the piano since I was 4 years old, roughly the time I was going deaf and before I had ear surgury to be able to hear again. And having the piano helped me to re-teach myself to hear things.

I sent you an email back around Easter of this year, and I just wanted to re-post it to show how much your music impacts the general public.

"Date: 09 Apr 2007, 17:32

I just wanted to let you know that you have made an impression upon people yesterday on Easter.
I work for a hotel (Best Western) and I had my laptop with me and I decided to play some music minus the rock/alt. So I went to your profile and started to play the music and for about 2 hours, every customer that came up to me asked if I was playing a CD and if they could buy it (if it was in stores) and I told them it was on line and I didn't know if it is for sell yet.
But they liked it all the same and I thought I would let you know. Give some note of confidence within your music.

Keep the faith,
AD Mantzouranis
(Best Western, Porterville Inn, Porterville, CA 93257)
"

To this day, I get emails from those customers asking for the web site, and I do give it to them, and they resend an email thanking me, when actually, they should be thanking you for having the guts to even put it out there for the public.
Granted, I haven't worked there since the beginning of May, but I still talk with customers that got my email address and I keep up with new music and whatnots.

Keep the faith Grant, you have inspiried all of us, and don't think otherwise. You are very talented and gifted.

Ana Mantzouranis aka Shortie
PS, too bad that we can only give the max of 2 kudos, should be able to put a gillizion or more lol.

I love your music and I'm glad, as you said, you don't have lyrics to force people to see it 'your way'. Most musicians I know that write for the piano are the same way. I don't think truly good piano music needs anything else. Keep up the good work!

Listening to your music is like reliving my childhood and I think of life events. My Dad started playing when he was young and played by ear...didn't take lessons at all. He played the piano a lot in the house while I was growing up. He made a song for my Mom and for me and each of my sisters composing music is his passion~Every song he has made are all in his head, every single note, just like you and anybody who can do that are musical geniuses in my book. And you Grant, are one of them.

Hey Granto,

I love the music and if there were a few more drawings, like the one I saw for the first song, it would be awesome.

If you are ever asked to violate your artitic integrity, tell them to forget it. I love writing poetry and I , like you, do not need anyone to validate how I am feeling.

Thanks and can't wait for wednesday night's premier of Ghost Hunters,

Your music is so beautiful, Grant. I have also never had a lesson (and was strangely about the same age when I started playing around on the piano) and I can relate with the whirlwind of emotions that can surge when playing and all feelings, thoughts, and musings flow straight to your fingertips. Piano music is such a stress relief, and I look forward to all the stories and memories that flicker through my mind when I hear such a well written piece, which is what yours does to my mind! I see autumn, I feel breezes, I see clouds rolling by, I remember smiling faces and glances that connect two souls...thank you for writing music that instills such joy in my soul :)
