Current mood: blah
This evening it was reported India's economy is projecting to grow 9.2% in the next fiscal year. In neo-liberal economic terms this is phenominal growth. But there was other less read news tonite, the Indian Supreme Court passed a ban in Dehli on the cooking of food at stalls along the roadside or market.
If you've never seen or been to India, these roadside cooks are a national staple. One of the most exciting things about india is its absolutley delicious food found more often than not with it's market/city chefs. I've had Paneer Pokoras (cheese fritter) from an elderly roadside cook once in Dehli, I've simply never had a pokora that tasted sooo delicious. Alot of the cooks have had their recipes passed down in their families from generation on end and now the government is ordering them to sell their product pre-packaged.
So simply I tell you all this because as everybody is overshadowed by the rising economic tides of China/India...ask yourselves the cost at which this is happening...we all know that there are few things in life without a cost, so what makes you think that a 9% rise in GDP appears out of thin air?
