- or did the industry leave God???

Something is wrong in the Gospel music industry! When did it go wrong?

I'll tell you:
The moment businessmen took over the music MINISTRY – and turned it into an INDUSTRY!!

I am disappointed. Disillusioned. Frustrated...
Not so much on a personal level. More saddened by the way the industry works.

I have experienced the gospel industry both from the inside and from the outside. Before I go on let me just say, that I HAVE met some good men and women there! People who do a wonderful job! Please keep that in mind!

BUT – there is something very wrong in the Gospel music industry!
Focus has shifted from message to money!
From seeking to serve – to just seeking success!

I have been offered recording deals from several American gospel labels.
The first time I was offered a deal I was overwhelmed. I signed the contract, but it didn't work out! Long story short: I lost some money, but I learned lesson number 1:
Some gospel labels are no better than any other label!

Second lesson was learned when I was offered deal #2. I did NOT sign the contract this time. The label took my masters anyway and released the CD in the US... (I still can't believe it) They even put their name under my songs to "score" my publishing rights. Lesson number 2:
Some gospel labels MAY be even worse than other labels?!?!

You know something is wrong, when you can't do any business without having your lawyer present!

You know something is wrong when the label asks you to change the words of a song to make it suitable for radio!

You know something is wrong, when a label wants to bind you to a contract for 5 – 7 years without any guaranties that you will even record.

You know something is wrong, if a label won't work with you unless you give them the publishing rights to your songs as well.

You know something is wrong when an artist can sell thousands of CDs – and never see a dime!

All this – and much more – while the label talkes about God and saving the world. It doesn't add up!

Am I bitter 'cause I am not a big star? No!
Am I jealous of people who "made it"? Hmm – no, actually not!

Am I saying that ALL gospel labels are BAD? No – but... many of them are out of focus! Also some of the smaller indie labels. "Indie" does not mean than they don't know the same tricks as the big guys!

Is it OK for a label to make money? Of cause!
That's not my point... But they have to treat the artist right. With respect. They have to think less about radiohits and more about "hitting" people with the message!

Should we expect higher standards from the Christian / Gospel labels? Yes! No doubt about it. Loose the business attitude, the fancy titles, the lights and the smoke – and start serving the Good News to the world! Then the music will hit the radiostations even if you tried to stop it!!

I guess one of the major problems is that gospel is so popular right now. There is so much money involved in the US gospel industry. The corporate world is slowly taking control of the leading gospellabels. And when THAT happens we really have a problem.

So HAS God left the Gospel music industry?
I really hope not! But sometimes it looks that way. Many things are going on in God's name – but I am not sure that He agrees with all of it...

Anyway, I am glad that I don't have to be the judge!

And to those of you who may think I am naïve, and that I don't know how the businessworld works... well you just proved my point. It shouldn't be so complicated spreading the GOSPEL!

Peace

Thanks for telling me this. As you know, I am about to launch a huge project in Atlanta this Summer. Even though it will be a non-profit venture there is still a business aspect that will come into play...I will be aware of this sort of trickery and SIGN NOTHING until my church attourney has reviewed it...

I would change one thing about the topic of the blog though. I'd say that the industry left God rather than He left the industry. He's where He's always been; let's unite, lift Him up, and steer this beast back to the God to Who all praise is due!!! Thank you, Jesus for giving us wisdom to get this done...Amen

TANGELA, Just remember to keep your focus on Christ, (just as he always has) he will guide your footsteps. Satan, hates, fakes and when that doesn't work he tries to imitate God. We must not let him distract or discourage us from doing what we were purposed/created to do, all this label stuff should be an after thought, we serve such a great God with a perfect will! Seek him first, and all this other stuff will be added...So best wishes and God be with you in your endeavors this summer, give me more details...it's encouraging knowing that others are truly seeking after Christ. Strive for the Perfection that God has set before you, I shall do the same!

You are SO right that it shouldn't be so complicated to spread the Gospel; and yet, God DID say we would encounter these obstacles. The sad thing is....we ARE encountering them, but from those who are supposed to be ON OUR SIDE! Those who are supposed to be helping to spread the Gospel, not for profit here on earth but for the salvation of God's children!

You hit the nail on the head with this one, Hans! It should not be so difficult to spread the Word with the help of those who are our brothers/sisters in Christ; and yet it is. It's the same with the book industry as well. People/companies out for the "big bucks" and not for the sake of saving the lost.

There is no easy answer to this one. Only prayer can change it...and that's only if it's in God's will for it to change. So....we pray and keep looking for the ones who are NOT out for the big bucks; those who are there for God and to give Him the glory without touching it themselves.

With His help, we can find them!

Blessings!

Thank you for being open to God's will and how sometimes financial success and God's will do not always go hand and hand.. I feel that the same thing that is being done in the music industry is very true for how our churches in America run. WE have forgotten it is about the message.. and not the messengers or the reputation of a church in the community.. God never asked us to promote us.. in fact he asked us to serve him and be like Him.. They will know us by our love, not by our successes and our failures.

God Bless,

Sadly enough, today the focus is on the success of record points or sales, otherwise the music industry and/or record companies will no longer produce your music. And they are known for asking or requesting you to change your lyrics--even in gov't jobs today, they do not want anything on your desktop or computer screens showing pics of Jesus Christ or the Cross for example, via email, and messages in reference to religion. It will only get worse, caught up in this world system, will those of us still represent our Lord and Savior once it gets worse or deny him like Peter did.

You go, girl!!!

All I could think as I read this was how focused on the negative this blog and most of it's comments have been... and... as I was reading my theme thought was; true or not, what purpose is this serving by putting the spotlight on what's wrong? Why not just go create your own label and be part of the solution, instead of complain about why it's so complicated to spread the gospel?

Simple answer... if you believe it's hard, you're right. What I know is that no matter what odds present themselves, there are always those people who leave their mark on the world by overcoming them... and those who overcome, just do. They don't complain about why it's hard or messed up... and would not invest their precious creative, solution-focused energy into a piece like this one.

What I think is "wrong" is our tendency to focus on problems. D'Layna, you acknowledged the truth of this situation and went on to place your emphasis on the solution... and thus, your comment has been the best part of this read so far. Mucho respect for calibrating your focus on the good... the endless opportunities to carry out what you are called to.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I really only read this because I saw a comment that said some people were upset by it and I was curious to see what fires them up... since the human psyche is rather entertaining to study. No hard feelings Hans. I just think it ought to be a wake up call to you that you're talking about what is not wanted, instead of what is. Misery loves company, but it rarely breeds success. (and yes, I mean success at spreading the word, not success in the industry... just to be clear)
To Happy Days...
Playful Heart, What is wrong with telling the "world" what it is? What is wrong with his effort to let others know that there are people producing records in the name of Jesus who care nothing more than the money and not the word? I am sorry sister, he is absolutely right, and you can bet your last dollar, he will go on, and he will succeed, I just have a feeling, that he will go far with God as his guide....sometimes we have to say what it is in order to protect others from "the world" we live in. And most of all I will pray for Hans, because after what he has been through he could use some prayer,,,god bless all of you, Jazzmiss
Great Post Hans! I think the state of the gospel music industry is just like the rest of the music industry... There are basically three companies here in the US that control ALL of the Major Label releases. I'm kind of thankful that Christian music has the opportunity to be in the state that it is in because I can remember just 10 - 15 years ago when Labels wouldn't even touch Christian music for the most part because it was so irrelavant and dated. Now it is fresh. The good news is that independants can really compete with technology being so accessible and information being just a 'google' away. With a little due diligence and quality music anyone can compete with the 'big dogs'.
Your disappointment tells me that maybe you should start your own label... just a thought. Blessings!
Excellent point here...but you're late talking about it, man...The American Music Business has been one sided
& Blatantly unfair contractually & financially for years; i.e., pretty much since the
first Radio program played Live or Recorded music( the 1920's?) Gospel Music label
interaction is just as Surly as Pop/Rock/Hip-Hop ...God never Left Gospel Music....It's just
that the Business Model this industry works on is in dire need of an Enema( Overhaul).
The good news though, is that now you can ( thanks to the internet ) you can go Indie &
run your own label and Bypass the madness...there is something to be said about networking sites
like Myspace, youtube, Yahoo Groups, etc...And it's easier to get on Radio in a given city in the
Gospel world than it is in the other popular Genres in today's Clear Channel-Syndicated Payola
Culture....///Dee M
Hans,
Your right on the money....no pun intended ...haha
Since I am not in the music industry I can't totaly relate to your situation. But having been in business, and having experienced some under handed dealings with "Christians" , that I can relate to sorry to say.
Your very right about your take on how Christian music gets distorted and the true meanings lost. And as you state, there are many out there that are not that way. And they truly have a heart to sing for the Lord.
God Bless You for taking a stand and having the courage to post this.
In answer to the question posted, I'd say some of the folks in the gospel music industry have left God.
You, my friend, are right where you are suppose to be.
Just keep at it. Also, keep spreading the word about lessons your learning along the way to those of us who need to know. We all thank you for that as I'm sure you have seen.
I am sorry that you are going through this and it's terribly sad but as you know, "If God brings you to it, God will see you through it". Peace and blessings, Kim
Hans,
Good article, but very negative. You can write article of this tone about practically anything. So what am I as a reader of this article supposed to gain from taking the time to read it? I know your frustrations and that is about it, but I've gained nothing. What are your vision and your passion? I work in gospel music. That's all I do for a living. I know all of the bad things that you are referring to. You are correct. So, now what? Offer me something that I can learn from. I've read this blog about 100 in the past written by a 100 different authors. What was your motivation in writing this blog? Was it to get a bunch of people to give you amen’s or is there a higher purpose? If so, I missed it. I normally wouldn't have posted a comment on a blog of this type, but you asked.
Hi Steve
Hans is not being negative, you are! Hans is only pointing out that people in the industry are very Christian in their behavior.
Why are you so negative about it? He is just another artist complaining about his situation, right? Why is he complaining? You are living prove of that!
If Hans came to you and presented his situation, what would you do? Would you give him 50% of the sales, let him keep the rights to his music and let him be who he is, even if he is not very commercial.
No, of course not, no one would! Yes, a true believer in Christ would! Point proven!
Open and purify your heart brother and I promise you will be blessed and be a blessing to those around you.
Love, Light & Peace from me to you!
Niclas
P.S. Hans, my brother, keep doing what you do. You are blessed and a blessing to SO MANY PEOPLE, including me. I love you!
Steve Allen Said
" I work in gospel music. That's all I do for a living. I know all of the bad things that you are referring to. You are correct. So, now what? Offer me something that I can learn from"
First I think the thing to remember here is that a lot of people are not aware of this. Read the other comments.
Second Hans has a right to vent his frustration about the industry side of things. I share a lot of his same feelings. I can tell you this is why I won't deal with the music industry. I now work in a different field.
Third If you are as involved as you say you are then I don't think anyone here can offer much that you can learn from. But the fact that you admit he is right puzzles me. This is not about being negative. This is about an unwillingness to compromise his message and his music. If you find that negative then you missed the point of the entire blog.
Steve also said " I've read this blog about 100 in the past written by a 100 different authors." Once again this verifies the truth in han's blog. This blog should serve as a warning to people getting started in the music industry WATCH YOUR BACK. Because no one else will.
Just because somebody has a fish on their buissness card does not mean I automaticly deal with them. I learned this lesson the hard way. As far as the christain music industry is concerned. Trust is never freely given. It is earned. If that is what most people walk away from this blog with then it was well worth the time for hans to type it.
Thanks Hans for making people more aware and encouraging them not to compromise.
Peace and God Bless
Marcus
Maybe the higher purpose, Mr. Allen, is for people to see this and say "OOps! I dealt fraudulantly with a brother! Maybe I should change!" Everyone who has any sense at all of what is right already knows 'What Is Right'. I think this gentlemen has a right to air his frustration just as you do. Your questioning his motivation is a very judgemental, nasty thing to say. If you are a Christian you already know what is true and honorable. Obviously his vision would be: To not be run over by a brother.
Good catch James!
I agree with just about everyone in this thread in one way or another because everyone is saying pretty much the same thing--even the ones who disagree with Hans.
I've been a Gospel singer/songwriter/ sound-man/ etc. for many yrs., and while I don't know everything, and I haven't a long list of towering accomplishments, unless one song on the radio and doing the music ministry for Chruch kids at summer camp, and playing for my Church count as towering accomplishments, I do know that God isn't pleased with His people arguing and complaining, and critisizing one another, especially in a public forum, so, let us all concentrate on what we are suppose to be doing, which is pressing on for the prize found in Christ Jesus. HE will take care of all our enemies, in HIS time, HIS way, according to HIS Word and HIS Will--even the recording industry can't escape HIS Judgements.
We have a higher calling and purpose than this thread is producing.
If we were all in a private setting, this discussion would be much more appropriate, but we aren't, so let's all shut-up for now; at least that's what I'm gonna do in just a moment.
Hans, I hear you; we all hear you. I can normally get a much better 'deal' from the secular side of the biz than from the so-called Christian side, which is one of the reasons that non-believers stay non-believers, and who can blame them? After all, Christians cant even agree on which Bible translation to read; it's no wonder to me that so many dont believe and never will.
Paul said that it's not wrong for Christians make a profit from spreading the Gospel. (I think that could probably be translated further to read something like: we all have to eat, pay rent, buy gasoline, raise kids, etc., etc., Christian or not). Paul went on to say: just make sure that you are preaching, teaching, and living, the True Gospel undiluted in your own life and your focus stays on Christ. I dont think that you meant to open such a 'can of worms', nor do I believe that you had any intention of stiring up anything like what has come from your article, but you did!
James, I'm new here, and I maybe should have written everything past the first 3 words of this mini-novel I'm writing here in a different place. Sorry if I did you a bad.
James, very immature. The problem now is that folks who say they are saved in these days fail to run after the God of the Bible days...The God that sent his prophets to even speak openly against kings when they dared to demonically lead people into rebellion.
Hi Hans! Hans you are right and many things have left God, even the church. From my own experience, I see that this dilema which you are expressing starts because when "leaders fail to TRULY LEAD BY GOD WITH BALANCE, we tend to get an off balanced (a.k.a perverted) result in the ways or the government of any organization or group of people that say they desire the will of god but do nothing but corrupt.I was visiting Courtney Bradley's page and I saw your invite. I want to say as a christian that have stumbled in many things but is on the potter's wheel, I have seen many of what you are saying play out in many ways, that u hit it right where it will hurts but its the truth. Sadly this problem has many limbs. I 2 have experienced (manipulation) so I call it. Its everywhere. It hard to even find good true leadership. I have seen leaders pervert, take advantage, gossip, betray trust, molest, manipulate, control, lie, don't take the blame, neglect sheep, fail to go after the lost, compromise and run after the money and not the deliverence of souls, etc. Well I can go on but Its not that you may be bitter but you must be carring a burden for God against this outrage. I believe that God is callin for a people that have went throuh these things and he is giving his people a real makeover. Even though the makeover may seem rough and seems like its not 1.......IT IS! We need people like you who dare to tell the bold face truth. Those that are affended by this, I can see that they have some hidden agenda's that maybe they are not aware of....RIGHT ON! Hey, sometimes we confuse a lost of trust in thins or people for bitterness. The bible says, "be not inorant of the devices of satan and it says warn the wicked and the righteous man of his ways. This is not easy to do because peoiple are always knowingly and unknowingly trying to compromise by pleasing people. I c it all the time, in myself and in anointed others. Even those that are his mouth, ears, and eyes......Remember if it were possible even the very elect will be deceived
WOW!! Sounds like you got really offended by this. That's great that you already knew this already. Your response made you sound like a child. You obviously missed his point. He did not excluded Jesus nor did he blame Jesus, which is what you made it sound like he did. I'm only responding because I hate to see someone miss something. God definatly qualifies who he calls and we were designed to have a gift in order to use it and benefit from it. What Hans was saying was; that when you allow what God has given you to do be the focus of WHY you do what you do it becomes something else other than God. We'd be lying if we didn't say we persued music or anything for the sake of financial advancment. And that's ok but when it becomes about self instead of the reason why you got in it in the first place. Yes Jesus did get NEGATIVE as you say with those in the temple, really he got angry. You know why? Exactly what Hans was trying to say....they used their gift for the wrong reasons. It became about self rather than God. The only thing wrong with your response was you didn't do it in Love. Hans doesn't need my defense and he reponded back to you in love. YOU may want to pray about it and check yourself before you read or hear what a person is Not saying.
Take Care,
Charlotte
STEVE Serious, You're on point..not that the other Steve didn't speak his peace but he must understand that blogs aren't created to enlighten, agree with or encourage him, they're created as an outlet, a gift to share. Be it positive or negative...my spiritual mind-set teaches me to FLIP-LIFE, meaning that often through negative acknowledgement, positive reactions occur. As you stated in the temple Jesus didn't just be negative or speak negatively but he actually hit and whipped folk! I just want to say that in God there is no positive or negative, only darkness and light, good vs. evil, freedom or bondage, therefore we should always speak neither positive nor negative but truth, because the truth is what sets us free. Hans has simply spoken the truth from his heart and past, this truth has and is freeing many who hear this truth and accepted it. Those who think it's in poor taste or shining a negative light on the industry are entitled to their opinion, I just pray that they are free! And last but not least, WHEN EVER WE START TALKING ABOUT INDUSTRIES, CAREERS, AND DENOMINATIONS, AND TRADITIONS, AND RELIGIONS...WE ARE OFTEN STRAYING AWAY FROM GOD'S WILL....NOW WHEN WE START THINKING OR TALKING ABOUT HOLINESS, JOY, PRAISE AND FAITH, OR SERVING, AND FASTING, LONG-SUFFERING AND SACRIFICE...THEN GLORY IS REVEALED IN OUR CIRCUMSTANCES!!!
Steve,
Thanks you for your comment - and I am sorry you think I am being negative...I am not a bitter man ;-)
You say that you have read this a 100 times before. Well, I wish that I had too before I entered into this industry. I knew nothing. I was young (well younger anyway - lol) and naive.
But so are most of the artists when they begin - young anyway. They are on fire! They want to change the world. They have a fresh outlook, a new sound and great songs! They are ready to make a difference... and then they meet an industry where money is more important than all of their dreams... I KNOW that there are labels where that's not the case - but come on, you know what I am talking about.
You ask me why I write this...
I think it is almost my "duty" as a "grown up" artist who has been around the block a few times to tell the young artists what they should expect. To prepare them and make them think about their own focus.
... and hopefully also make some of the industry think about what they are doing.
It's all I can do anyway...
Peace
Hans Christian
I know something is wrong when I can't connect with the ones I want. I would have married Jaci V. Danica Patrick got married. Jessica Alba? Maybe this is what it means to "suffer without (outside) the camp". I've been outside the camp and it's been no fun. Thanks for the message and God bless you. God's will be done.
I'm glad you posted your thoughts...like Stallionaires Music said there is even worse things you could have exposed and in many aspects some of the gospel artists...i wont name any names but you would know them if i did - are patterning themselves after the world...but guess what? the first are still going to be last and the last are still going to be first. There is a new sound coming through and out of the Gospel Music Industry and you will not be able to fake it...it is the sound that Jesus loves to hear and that is Spirit and Truth. I don't care how brilliant you are if you don't have Spirit and Truth behind it...it will not draw men unto Him...which is the purpose of Gospel Music....All I can say Hans is be very careful and prayerful regarding this situation...because what you have experienced...God is not pleased and it doesnt matter if your name is great on earth...but what matters is how great it is in heaven...when you present your God given gift in Spirit and Truth and you allow God to open your doors instead of manipulating situations and taking advantage...then you have done a righteous thing before God and the fruit abound to your account will remain...God is after true worship not your fame...that is why we sing To God be the Glory! I know - I have sang Gospel Music in a Jewish Temple and watched normally stiff people fall to their knees crying...that is what God is after not album or ticket sales....please! I dont care if i sale one album but if one person comes to God because of one note or sound then i have begun to do my responsible job! I'm after what God is after.....Worship, Joy, Peace. keep praisin Hans and directing those voices for God's purpose.
I wanted to do big things in the gospel hip hop world, and had a contract right after I graduated with my masters...but I prayed on it deeply with a dear friend, and wanted confirmation. It never happened and my passions or desires has changed, realizing that the music industry is not for me. I met many in the industry previously backstage and so forth, talked to them, and it was not what it is cracked up to be on TV and such....if it is God's will he will open doors.
Hey Hans,
That is really an awesome commentary. And it is the downright truth! I wonder myself what's gonna happen to the "Gospel Industry" when I see all these things happening. But, you know, I'm encouraged because I know that gospel is the Word of God - the Good News about Jesus Christ. Therefore, it is God's business - not the industry's business. And the Lord says, "vengence is Mine, sayeth the Lord and I will repay." It's just like the church and all that's going on inside. We take our eyes off of Jesus and we start to look around us and we get discouraged. But, we forget...this is the Lord's church, not our church. And He has the precious marks on His head, hands, feet and side to prove it. It is purchased with His own blood. And the gates of hell shall not prevail.
So, be encouraged my brothers and sisters. Jesus says to him that overcometh, the same shall eat of the tree of life. God bless you. Keep telling the truth Hans. The people need to hear it.
P.S. There's always been times in the history of the church where things were not going right - corruption and every sin that begets man. And God has always raised up His people to speak the truth even at the cost of their own lives. Who would know that we are called for such a time as this.
Shalom
After reading your blog, I sympathize with what you've experienced. God is where we put him & it sounds like some in the gospel music industry have put the money above the message. But Gods plan was always that we be in the world, although not of the world, without christ in us the the world has no taste.
Here are some good links to read.
Salutations! It was very interesting reading this. My calling is to spread the word of God and I want to get into the gospel music industry. But the one thing that I try to remember is that just like the church is not just a temple where the word is preached, it is a BUSINESS. And just like there are a lot of pastors who have los sight of the real goal for the church, there are Christians who have lost sight or gospel music's purpose or they may have just been "businessmen" all along. I have my apprehensions about the business, but I don't believe God has left the music at all. He's still the same yesterday, today and forever. The "business" may change, but that never will! I tell you what, let's start our own label!!! God bless!
Hans,
Here's what you tried to leave as a comment on my page today :
"Just stopping by to say hi – and to let you know that I posted a new blog.
I wrote it a few weeks ago – but I have been a little afraid to post it... it may upset a few people...
It’s called “God has left the Gospel music industry”.
Anyway, stop by and read it – and let me know what you think.
Peace
Hans Christian"
Question : what are you looking for by leaving such comments on people's page ? It's the kind of comment that sounds kind of innocent but when you understand psychology, you can see that it is definitly not the case and I have to say "bravo" as you managed to attract a lot of people to your page by using and giving such responsabilities to our dearest God in such a title (which is not quite right, in my opinion...). I read all your blogs and, conclusion, I have to say that you should maybe stop playing Gospel music for a while because some healings are maybe required for the moment... I had the same experience as you had and started telling everybody stories about what was happening in the so-called "Gospel industry"... That was my mistake... MY BIG MISTAKE !!! By doing so, non Christians turned their back on the Words of God after listening to me using badly my tongue, as they started to amalgamate God with what was happening to me in the christian community and the Christians behaviours. Seeing that I wasn't doing any good around me, I left the Gospel music and church for a while, I needed to re-focus on my personal relationship with God, and finally understand that Christian has never meant perfect (or Jesus would have never died for us).
Hans, I'm really sorry if I sound harsh, my Brother, but I'd rather read a loving blog about how you came to Jesus and your experience with Him than words about discords among God's children.
Hope you'll understand my point of view which is totally coming out of love for you,
David
I gotta agree with Steve Allen. I understand Hans' frustrations - but there comes a point when action needs to be a part of the frustration. I didn't seen any conclusions being brought forth by Hans, rather just complaining.
The first step to changing things is changing them in ourselves. Be the solution.
David...............Man you hit the nail on the head about healing. That was one thing I meant to point out...........and stepping back is the right thing to do. All that we do in ministry is going to have to deal with business but when you allow business to over take your ministry then that is when the devil won. Sorry ya'll if you don't like this statement but it is true. Whether you are hurt by people in the INDUSTRY or not.............Jesus is going to look out for you..........sometimes it a leason in not being so navie or sometimes it giving you aloot attention or big contract to see how you will handle it. Again I say Han and other ..............Continue to see the Lord in all that you do, move on Han or better yet (Smiling) Hold up .....................Wait a min..............................that right hold up until you feel the Lord speaking to you about what you should do next and how you should do it. I have found that to be my guidance in all I have done and still doing. You did not do this for the industry and the world is going to be the world even in gospel (I am sure there are some CCM horror stories too-Smiling)
David, not all of God's messages will be positive in a form of a testimony. There are many tragedies in the bible. Does that mean we stop reading the word because it is negative?! No, we learn from the parables and books and apply the experiences in our own lives. If you are unable to see the message Hans is leaving for us, I don't know what to say. All I can do is pray for you to be more acceptable to all forms of God's word...Hallelujah! Love you, my breathren!!
Right on Steve. Thank you.
Hans, be encouraged. Sometimes we go through things in life for a reason. What we are responsible for doing when this happens is seeking God's wisdom on why it happened and what we are to do about it to move forward. Sometimes the answer is nothing. Other times it's to keep trying, but more wisely. Still other times it's a sign to do something else or perhaps just help educate others so they don't stumble and fall.
Can you see where I'm headed yet?
What has the Lord revealed to you about His plan for what you are to do next . . . beyond this blog, I mean? I'm probably not the only one who is curious about this.
Anyway, thanks for sharing your blog and this topic. I too am very familiar with these kinds of stories. it's part of the reason why I'm very happy being independent. Though that could change someday perhaps, I'm happy right where I am. My band is a ministry, first and foremost. That means it's about people - not the music. So every decision I make about it concerns that more than anything else. If what I'm doing doesn't line up with that purpose and God's will for my ministry and His Word, then I'm going the wrong way. But that's me.
Finally, too often I see Christian artists chasing a brass ring and not God's plan or purpose for their lives. Or if this is God's plan for their lives they seem to have their priorities out of order. And all too often these same artists blame an industry ripe with corruption and greed, not to mention pride. Anyone who isn't aware of this situation simply isn't taking the time or seeking wise counsel before entering into this business. That, is sad to say, foolishness on the part of the artists themselves. With God on our side and the wisdom in His Word, we ought be better prepared and much wiser, as a whole, than we are.
In the words of a Matthew West song I heard this morning, paraphrased, "Do you wanna find your heart or lose your mind."
Blessed Be The Name Above All Other Names,
