I know, technically this is not a summer blog anymore because at this point of my reminiscing I'm at September already. But since my singing was supposed to be a one-summer affair, that's the label I'll go with.
So, since I actually got down to singing how did it go? Well, ups and downs as always. After a week or two of bedroom wailing, more and more stuff I liked started to surface. Pretty soon, recording for keeps.
Singing-wise, most of the songs have taken a bit of time and effort to find their way. I've tried out lots of different approaches and quiet lords over loud in almost every case. These songs just don't seem to like me wailing loud, so I usually end up singing from quiet to extremely soft and in between; it just sounds better here. Lots of heavy breathing going on, then.
Actually gets a bit difficult when there's a lot of high notes, as in "Dead Birds" and "Kumari", but I most times I manage to power through. Pretty soon there's a nice number of promising beginnings; by the end of September, practically every song has a good start.
Has been slow, though. My motto for vocals has been "nothing that annoys me stays in", and I've deliberately taken my time to get there. Anyway, the successful takes I really like, and it's only a matter of time before it's all good.
It's going to be great to get stuff finished and start sending songs to Odessa. Can't wait to hear what she brings to the table!
Nighty night, back very soon!
