DAY NIGHT DAY NIGHT
Directed by Julia Loktev
USA/Germany/France, 2007, 94 min | In English

In Times Square, a 19 year-old girl of indeterminate ethnicity prepares to become a suicide bomber. Although her history and motives remain unknown, her resolve seems frighteningly certain as she weaves her way silently through the noise and turmoil of the city. Shot superbly on digital video, this taut thriller examines notions of faith and devotion, even while keeping its politics decidedly opaque.

"The Cannes Film Festival's single most riveting work. An unforeseen tour de force. A genuinely unnerving and unexpectedly moving experience." - Gavin Smith, Film Comment

MANUFACTURED LANDSCAPES
Directed by Jennifer Baichwal
Canada, 2007, 90 min | In English and Mandarin with English subtitles

MANUFACTURED LANDSCAPES features gorgeous images of amazing color and composition from the most unlikely of places: industrial landscapes. From factories and strip mines to eviscerated ships, the beauty in destruction is captured on film by renowned photographer Edward Burtynsky. In this film, he tours Asia in an exploration of humankind's relationship with nature as it extracts and destroys in the pursuit of progress.

"Awe inspiring! Stimulates the senses and the consciene simultaneously." - Hollywood Reporter

"Stunning! Like Burtynsky's work, the film is gorgeous and haunting." - Utne Reader
