"How to spontaneously make a music video in one day"
Tracy Klas: Award winning singer /songwriter chooses her hit song "Only Star" to be featured as a music video.
Tracy Klas calls her Friend Ray McFarland on Saturday from Rex post wanting to do a mutual project for sometime, to Direct and Edit Tracy's Video which they are going to shoot with her sons Sony home camera.. tomorrow, Sunday! with NO time code OF COURSE! Fantastic! Ray exclaims.
Tracy then calls her 20 year old film student son Collin Klas and tells him she will cook him dinner if he will bring his camera and shoot his crazy mother running around in the dirt at staged Western town, with her Granddads 1940's vintage guitar doing that thing she does on camera! Collin and Ray agree.
Assisted by Defforest on props, tumbleweeds and Dirt Blower.. with special thanks to Jodie and Joe Rossi this small crew heads out to Rossi farms to produce this Americana Pop/Rock music video for The Tracy Klas Promo Project.
it was hot, sunny and dusty just like they had all hoped... natural lighting saturated the mood for this little production and inspiration followed. Tracy Klas has been an Art Director for many years and had the basic ideas and shots in mind, using a digital camera the day before to get some ideas a head of time. Day of the Shoot: " I had to let go and be the performer and let my son Collin, and Ray see this song in frames".
7 hours, 1 old truck with no brakes, 45 pounds of Dirt and 1 fruit plate later. this very talented 4-
some came up with the beautiful images and poetic visuals needed to make this up and coming cross-over artist a star with no budget.
"My favorite shots are the shoot-throughs that Collin did, through the wagon wheels and such he is a very talented DP". Ray's Editing fiasco had only just begun as there was no time code and no way to sink up the lips to the song! Working his INCREDIBLE magic he gave this video a very smoldering... Dusty and "Hot" Look with different special effects. "of course there were many problems as you can imagine with a Consumer camera and Ray dealt with these things well". Tracy will tell you it was a absolutely fun and creative experience and knows that the talents behind the scene made it easy for her to shine in front of the camera, regardless the giant bugs and bumble bee attacks...not to mention the weight of that 1940's vintage ruffle skirt thats went from fresh pressed to torn ripped and filthy with weeds and barbwire stuck to it... "we'd do it again! this time with a little time code and less dirt!."
"This video was really a tribute, to my Grandfather who built that guitar in the 40's and did country and western music , though my music is primarily pop-rock I loved mixing up the vibe.. who says I cant wear a my best friends cowboy hat and sing my mainstream songs, strumming the old vintage guild and kicking up some dirt! even though I was born in Hollywood, I grew up in the mountains Colorado after all."
