My Lament is a Belgian Doom/Death Metal band that ahs been around
since 2003. In 2006 they released their first, and thus far, only demo
“Beneath the Hidden” and in 2009 this album was released, their debut
full-length album. “Broken Leaf” contains eight tracks of quite diverse
Death/Doom Metal. there are elements of slow epic Doom Metal
reminiscent of Candlemass, there are also parts that reminds me of the
classic Death/Doom Metal like Winter. There are even a few more
straight forward Death Metal moments. Although out this album there is
a melodic layer to the music that best can be described as My Dying
Bride inspired music. What is so impressive about this album is that
they have managed to blend these different together seamlessly, this is
a very cohesive product. The central aspect of this recording and the
man focus seems to be the creation of a very dens, dark atmosphere
filled with a very sombre and melancholic sensibility. This is created
through the skilful use of harsh riffs, heavy riffs, epic riffs, sombre
clean guitar passages, a heavy bass, excellent drumming and the vocals
(they range from spoken, to whispered to deep growls). An interesting
album that I think will satisfied most into the Death/Doom Metal genre.
