Dear Friends and Family:
Thanks to everyone who took the time to vote in the 2009 Academy of Texas Music’s Texas Music Awards. On April 26th, 2009 at the awards show in Palestine, TX, I won “Singer/Songwriter of the Year”.
I am very honored by this award, and I appreciate all those who voted to get me there. I am very excited to be the first woman to take home the prize in the category's history.
I was in very good company, as I was nominated along with fellow Houston songwriters Derek Aramburu, Danny Everitt, Brian Kalinec and Hank Woji. It was a true testament to the great songwriting community we have all built together and separately in Houston.
We all had a mini "band camp" at my farmhouse in Tyler, and had a great time rehearsing, writing, jamming, eating, drinking and general shenanigans over the weekend. Derek wrote an essay about his whole experience about the weekend together, and I'm overwhelmed by his graciousness. Check out his blog on his MySpace or Facebook page.
