Hey there
Here’s a quick update on Part two of my Norwich adventure. After a
restful day I headed back to the Playhouse Theatre for the gig I had
organised the night before for a band called KunK. You may remember
that two members of KunK were in the crowd so I promised to set up a
gig for them.
So it was that at 6 o’clock in the tiny bar next to The Playhouse,
thirty odd people assembled to get KunKed. I had already downloaded a
few of their songs the night before, so I knew what to expect – and
loved every second of it.
In a rocking half-hour set they played their first single “We Are
Not Who You Think We Are”, their new single “No Way”, as well as “Game
Over”, “Public Image Ltd”, and “Sara Wishes She Was A Robot”.
As challenged the previous night, they also attempted a rollicking
version of “I’ve Got A Brand New Combine Harvester” that didn’t quite
get there, but came pretty damn close. I think there is a gap in the
market for a hard-rockin version of “Combine Harvester” and I think
KunK are just the bad for it. Afterwards they told me they are doing a
gig at the Hope And Anchor in Islington, London on November 16 to some
industry bigwigs, so I'm puttin out the call people. Get on down to the
Hope and Anchor on the 16th and let's all get KunKed!
Still buzzing from their set, I took to the stage and found the
following audience members: A couple called Clive and Beverley, that I
thought looked so posh, when they had sex he probably exclaimed "Oh my
darling, I seem to be arriving". They looked like this:
A local electrician who looked more like a premiership footballer on a date with his hot model girlfriend:
There was also a guy and a girl in the front row dressed as, well a
cat and a bunny. Seems they were at a gig I did last year at The
Reading Festival, in which I dragged people dressed as cats on stage
for a massive cat fight. Not sure why there were people there dressed
as cats, but not only did these two remember it, the guy in the front
row was one of the cats in question. He thought it would be fun to
dress up again, and bring his girlfriend dressed as a bunny. They also
brought the PG Tips monkey. Again, I'm not sure why.
The monkey spent the show onstage among some sad balloons left at the venue a week ago:
I even tried calling Johnny Vegas for a phone reunion between the
two, but we kept missing each other. I eventually returned Monkey to
his owners, with the balloons as a present:
Finally, I have to give a shout out to a young man who has been
coming to my shows since he was thirteen years old. I met him and his
sister Cassie in my Edinburgh audience one year, when I tugged eight
year old Cassie's pigtails. She said "Guess what my brother's name is?"
Turns out it was, and still is, Adam Hill.
Adam, Cassie and the Hill's come to my Norwich shows every year, and
I now feel a little family connection with them. Adam is quite the
dapper and assured young man, while Cassie is absolutely lovely. I
dragged Adam on stage for a photo, and as you can see he got the last
laugh.
I think that's all to report from Norwich. Oh, I also grabbed a
girl's mobile phone and changed her wallpaper from a shot of Michael
McIntyre to a photo of me on stage.
I now have a few days off, although I am doing a charity gig at the
London Comedy Store on Monday with Stewart Francis (I love him) and the
amazing Stephen Merchant.

Playhouse. They make me feel at home whenever I play there, and went
out of their way to organise a last minute show for my new favourite
band - KunK:
